WTF? PDA woes

Post by Tossica »

So, yeah... I just got this Audiovox Thera from a friend. I tried to get a data plan put on it this weekend so I can surf for :boobs: while I'm on the road and was told by Verizon that they cannot activate ANY devices on their network that are not GPS capable. Has anyone heard about this bullshit? They were saying that if you already have a plan in place, the devices aren't being kicked off but they can't start up any new plans on older devices.

That means there are millions of phones/PDA's out there that are useless once the current plan is cancelled. Neat...

Sorry to bump an old post but actually that smells of BS all over.

I think the issue is you have a CDMA device and most, nearly all cell providers are pushing GSM hard (GSM being the global standard, cept for korea, japan, and some other country, name fails me now).

Point being is your friend gave you some old hardware. The hardware you have has been deemed "legacy" by your provider.

I'd get a AudioVox smt5600, a bit pricy but has the features you'd want and is a GSM aka Global phone. You lose some realistate however, the screen is much smaller and there is no stylis.

I'm pretty up to date with cell stuff if you have other questions.
