At lvl 60, what do you do to entertain yourself?

Postby Tikker » Fri Aug 19, 2005 4:28 pm

Cause I'm bored as fuck, and have been for a while now

The raiding is starting to lose it's allure to me, having a full set of epic means I've got nothing to gain in any of the 5 man instances

the 5 man instances are stupid easy to start with

PvP doesn't really interest me, 1 on 1 I can kill most, but they've learned that so I never see less than 3 on 1 action which makes it a lot less fun

I dunno, when EQ was peaking, I used to miss it when I wasn't playing

WoW I could go 2-3 weeks of not logging in, and no issues

which I guess maybe is a good thing, but I WANT something fun to play, wuwu

Start another character, thats about all you can do atm.

Seems you need a break until they come out with something new, Tik.

It's not WOW, man. It's you. You played WOW for a year before release, it's no surprise you are a tad burnt out.

Well, part of the problem is the games we are playing are SSDD. Nothing new and captivating. WOW is brilliant but not revolutionary. FPS' are done and quick fixes. RTS are the same thing really and nothing more can be done with them. MMOs are not advancing really at all.

My gaming has dropped tremendously over thelast two years, and I seem to be reading more and doing less on the PC.

Eight years ago I could dump 12 hours into EQ without a second thought in a night. Now, I can't even play 12 hours a week of multiple games.
Years before that, I could easily spend a friday night buried in Might & Magic. I think the industry has taken a turn for the worse and games are just copies of what we've already seen with better graphics and less soul. The fun quotient on the games coming out now can't compare with the games before, even if they are much grander productions.

        Lyion's post was very valid.

I played WoW for 30 minutes this week total and that was about all I could stomach. I went over to a friends and tried out the latest battlefield FPS and while it's quite good I couldn't see it entertaining me for more than an hour or so a week.

The speed at which Blizzard is releasing content is fucking atrocious...Actually the entire MMOG industry has gone down the shitter.

Supposedly Vanguard is doing away with all the happy bullshit dumbing-down of the genre these days and reinstituting the "train" and non instanced zones. The penalty for death is also supposed to be exp.

Hopefully they can turn things around, but honestly I somehow doubt it.

My heavy gaming days are long long behind me. There was an feature I caught on G4 TV today saying that last year alone only one new video game actually made the top 50 and it was Fable. Other than that everything else has been regurtitated shit. It says a lot about the overall stagnation of the industry.

We always remember the great games from years past, but memory's positive emphasis skews the facts a good bit. Sure, there's a ton of shit being pushed on the gaming public today, but the same thing happened in the eighties and nineties. We just forget all the, well, forgettable pap and remember the top ten percent. For every System Shock or Planescape: Torment there were Daikatanas and low-budget Star Trek licensees aplenty. There've been plenty of good games released recently, either innovations or variations on established themes. Dawn of War was an unconventional, brilliantly executed RTS game. Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich was outstanding. Thief 3, Sid Meier's Pirates, the Silent Storm series, FarCry, Rome: Total War, and Empire Earth 2 are all excellent modern games.

None of these games released lately caused me to stay up past my bedtime on a weeknight. I'll say it's possible I am jaded, but in my opinion the gaming industry has somewhat hit a wall and is moreso regurgitating concepts and doing less with more, versus the opposite which we saw in earlier games.

I love the Total War series, Farcry, Thief, etc, but none of them are revolutionary, just small gains that do not change the landscape at all.

WOW is the same way. While it improved on many facets, it is a traditional MMO and not revolutionary at all.

D&D Online still holds some hope for me.

The D&D folk usually don't give a fuck about the rest of the industry and do whatever it is they want to in whatever category. I like that.
