EQ2/Tech Support

Postby mofish » Sun Aug 21, 2005 4:27 pm

EQ2 is totally fucked on my new computer.

1. Missing body parts
2. Everything is sped up super fast, all the effects, water, fire, smoke; i run super fast through zones, stutters, uneven.
3. Blinks uncontrollably, black screen/texture back and forth superfast.

Anyone know whats going on here? Using 7800GTXs in SLi, RAID 0, athlon dual core processor, winXP SP2.

It's your video cards. Box them up and send them to me. It may take me a few months to sort it out though......

Joking aside, I have no clue.

Nevermind, I posted in haste. Seems EQ2 has as problem with dual core athlons. Set the affinity of EQ2.exe to a specific core, runs fine now. And the missing limbs were just a driver issue, new WHQL driver fixed that.

Set to Maximum quality, then turned every slider that wasnt maxed to max. Runs perfectly ^_^

Your running everything in eq2 maxed out and it runs smoothly with that setup?
I'm writing it down so I have my shopping list set.

Yeah it runs smoothly. Saying it runs perfectly is a (slight) exagerration. Still get a touch of slowdown in the worst parts of Freeport (NFP comes to mind). I would probably have to turn a couple of things down a notch for a raid or something. Maybe. But so far so good. Let me put it this way, it runs far smoother like this than my old system did on high performance setting with shadows off and stuff.

x2 4400+ (dual core doesnt help EQ2, yet at least)
2 x XFX 7800GTX SLi, overclocked version (490/1300MHz)
2 gigs crucial ballistix Ram
2 250 GB maxtor diamondmax 10 in RAID 0
uh thats about it peformance wise.

cpu overclocked 2.2GHz @ 2.6GHz

oh yeah mobo is dfi lanparty sli-dr nforce4 chipset. Crazy amount of oc settings. I can get 2.7GHz out of her probably, just havent bothered.

Dual core chips are major problems with most operating systems and software. I was aiming for one until I did some research.

I'd give it 6 more months or so until it's better technology.

I havent had an issue yet except for the old EQ2. Oh well, seems to run fine with normal OS tasks. I just went dual core to future proof myself. But yeah, if you arent as concerned with that, most stuff is still single threaded, as far as individual apps go.

Well I won't be able to afford anything like that till after the first of the year anyways, but now I have a better idea of everything I need, thanks again.

I'm wondering if it's worth it for me to upgrade the video card in my laptop. EQ2 runs pretty well right now with the current setup. The video card upgrade is quite expensive but from what I hear, the Radeon Mobility 9800 256MB is much faster than the 9600 128MB I have now.

The 9800 is still a stout card, though getting old. That is what I was running in my old system, a 9800 Pro. Especially for a laptop since they are always behind the curve, the 9800 would probably be a noticeable upgrade to the 9600. They are both last gen though. If your games are running alright now, maybe want to wait for a better laptop VPU.

Pretty sure there won't be any other upgrades made for my laptop. Having a laptop that you can upgrade the video in at all is pretty rare.
