Ahhh so the enviro-wackos are the evil ones because they dont want to see the oil business growing and the oil companies are the good guys by hindering the production of alternate powersources. I also dont see anyone stepping up saying hey there a huge chunck of land down the road from me, build an oil refinery there.

We are not talking about oil companys simply not funding alternate energy sources. They have done everything in their power to ensure that we are forced to use their power source for as long as possible. The gov't doesn't do anything because its to closly linked to the oil companies.

We all know in our gov't its a hell of alot harder to actually get something done then to do nothing at all. It takes less effort to stop the building of more oil refineries then it does to actually create non oil based power.

The oil companies care about 1 thing and only one thing. How much money is going into their pockets. They dont care how it effects the enviornment today and especially not 10 20 or 100 years from now. Its all how much money do we make today and how can we make more tomorrow. Getting support for enviornmental issue is extremely hard in this county becasue no one wants to look past today. Its what is happening today, how will it effect me now. It doesn't matter how enviornmentally minded you are, every single person in this country is guilty of it.

Oil companies don't want to lose their business and only care about how much money they make?!

They also try tooth and nail not to lose their business to alternate fuel sources?!

Money > enviornment obviously who cares what we do to it as long as there is a profit to be made.

3.25 for the lowest grade of gas, and in order to get this price you have to drive into the shittiest area of New Bedford, so if its worth getting shot... go for it lol!

Last night gas prices were raising almost .10 every hour or so....

Dick Cheney is laughing all the way to the ch-ching.

Yesterday on my way home from work I got a voice mail from my bf's mother saying to get gas and that everyone was in a panic there. she is three hours away toward Georgia in Aiken. I thought she was being overly-dramatic as she can be almost always, but my mom said too, that this happened in the 70's and that there will be a shortage.

So I passed a few gas stations on the way home to see if people were freaking out here. everything looked okay until I saw people changing their signs. It went from 2.79 to 2.90 within minutes. I watched it!

I pulled in and had to wait 15 minutes before I could get gas. It took $40 to fill up.

Now, it's 3.29 and noone has put a cap on how much gas we can get. The word is that 50% of the pipeline to the east coast is working, there is gas but it's tight right now.

my brother works for the city and they are ordering that the city vehicles conserve gas.

First gas shortage since the 70s. Arizona even possibly out of gas soon. Great job USA.

This sucks, we are driving to the Alleghanies this weekend. Its a 4 hour drive.

They just had a breaking news story about how the state is forcing gas stations and suppliers to show invoices for the gas they paid for. They are trying to prevent gouging.

What a stupid thing to say.

Yes, I'm quite sure that the Vice President of the United States is laughing about a national catastrophe and it's effect on our country.

i haven't filled up for about a week because i haven't had any money... but i will fill up today since i get paid and i don't think it's gonna be pretty. we're already over the three dollar mark, and i'm not sure what it's at atm but i believe it's like 3.15 or something like that.

i don't really mind it too badly just because i live in a fairly small town and anywhere i really need to go is only a fifteen or twenty minute bike ride away, tops. the bad news for me is that my bf lives in lincoln, 100 miles away. we already get to see each other so rarely, this is just going to make it ten times worse. :(

at any rate, i'll let y'all know how much it costs me to fill up. i've got a dinky little 99 cougar but i'm guessing it'll be at least 40$. :ugh:

Time to start looking at biodiesel folks.

Seriously, it's not that hard. Especially if you don't drive a lot.

10 liters of vegetable oil

2 liters of methanol

3.5 grams lye (sodium hydroxide)

Yields 10 liters biodiesel and 2 liters of glycerine mush. You can do it for .60 cents a gallon and burn it in *any* diesel engine.

I commute 85 miles one way, every day to work. I'm buying a diesel vehicle and starting a little refinery as soon as I can.

I'm moving back to Portland in two weeks, and I'm seriously thinking about buying a MAX pass - does anyone up there now ride tri-met? I've been gone six years, but everyone tells me that traffic has gotten out of control.

On C-Span this morning they addressed the gas prices. The consumer started to demand air bags in vehicles and so manufacturers followed suit. the same will happen with hybrid cars.

their first suggestion is to make sure your tires are fully inflated. if everyone did this, it would reduce gasoline prices by 10%

second suggestion was to buy a hybrid car. there's a waiting list, btw. People are definitely interested in conserving oil...and Congress suggests we do something about it. I agree.

Call Matlock and ask him how much money those Oil Companies can make on a deserted rock.

Good call, it's truely simple shit if you have a garage and a decent sized tank.

I find it a little hard to believe that just because you work in a profitable business you don't have eyes, a brain, or a heart to see, comprehend, or care what's going on around you.

True, no one wants to lose their business, but they do have children to think of. I don't believe they just spontaneously reproduce carbon copies of themselves to keep the business running.

I don't blame them for not wanting to lose money, and it will be a hard change to make, but I refuse to believe that they won't see that something needs to change in the future. Since they are so rich, maybe they'll even buy into the research and get a food in the door to make profits on this new fuel.

without refineries to take care of the reserves, its well... wasted. Way to go GW, could have been done months ago when gas prices started to soar.

Problem is the Stat oil reserve at current output would not assist for more than 2 to 5 months. Not going to help like you said if there are no refineries. Might want to talk to the fucking treehumping druids on that one. You know the ones that bitched 2 days before the hurricance cause the SUV that sucks 4 gallons to the mile and costs 80.00's to produce, and are now bitching because the refineries that they refuse to build are not pumping any gas for biff and buffy to get to soccer practice.

Actually, most of the hippies I've known wouldn't get caught dead driving an SUV. The mostly drive stuff like volkswagens or hybrids. It's the yuppie soccer moms and baby boomers that drive the SUVs, plus all the redneck wanna-be cowboy tough guys that buy the monster pickups and never haul loads bigger than their runs to Safeway in them. As for the actual druid types I know or have known, most of them don't even drive, they take public transit. Those that DO drive also wouldn't be caught dead in SUVs.

So yeah, lay the SUV thing at the feet of the yuppie soccer moms and the wanna be toughguy dads who feel their balls would shrivel up and wither away if they got a minivan or station wagon.

As for the strategic oil reserve, isn't it for use in times of emergency? Isn't *NOW* something of an emergency? If not, WTF else do you need, rains of fire? Rivers turning to blood?
