air force jobs

ok so i'm going to see a recruiter tomorrow and what i'm really most interested in is getting a job that translates well to (hopefully high paying) outside jobs when i'm done with the AF

what kind of stuff transfers over well to the outside world? i don't wanna come out with some shitty skill set that makes me worthless to anything outside of the military

mmm yeah so if i find out there's a crop of good stuff i can go into the AF for and come out with good job opportunities, then i might actually set in stone that i'll join, because right now i'm still kinda undecided on whether or not i should finish some bullshit degree and try to find a job without experience or actually go out and see the world whilst getting job experience

Linguistics could probably score you a nice job, but that shit is very fast paced learning and difficult. I'm not sure if the air force has linguistics jobs or not, but I'd think so...

- Air Traffic Controller
- One of a variety of medical specialties
- Computer Programmer, if you get an assignment where you actually write code
- Satellite Ops
- Civil Engineering

Any sort of technical operations position can also translate to the civilian world.

Every branch has linguists. If you're moderately capable with languages, it's not an overly difficult tech school, compared to say, ATC, but it can put you in line for some truely shit assignments.

Get Air traffic control if you want to commit suicide. This is the number one stressful job in existance and has the highest rate of suicide.

Computer programmer was great years ago, but every swinging cack and his brother can program these days, unless you are REALLY good at it then you will probably end up flipping burgers.

Knew a linguistic specialist (asian languages) who made a fuckton of money at his job then contracted out to Japanese businessmen on his personal time at unreasonable rates.

Mediacal is always good but if you want the real high dollars become a surgeon and specialize in something like eye surgery. You strike me as the gyno type too so you might could handle that.

Pilots make good money but you would have to give up the weedz to go into the private sector (Wizz quiz sucks yo)

any thing with Cyrpto Technology is good. Depnding on which spook job you get you can score a job with network security right out of the military. word to wise pay to keep your security clearances up when you get out. Peopl like those fat TS/SBI or TS/SA clearances

Also regardless of which job you pick/get if you push the education you can score a degree without having to pay for it. I did two degrees one in communication and one in Computer Electronics. I blew 15 bucks and that was for dress white dry cleaning when graduation came along. I spent 2 hours total in class the rest was done while I was out to sea. most of the credits I got converted over from the job I was already in.

I like these choices but I would have to go with medicine...

Look into it and see if any of their nursing programs get you credit in the real world....

With all the useless baby boomers getting old the need for qualified medical people is on the rise... A buddy of mine is making 35 an hour as a man-nurse and he just started and thats in North Carolina where 35 an hour goes a ways.

Oh... some of you guys might know him... He played Artaniss on the nameless a loooong time ago.

I am currently in the Air Force, I would suggest 3c0x1 (computer ops / networks) or 3c0x2 (networks, long haul comm). You will get nice experience and a security clearance. TS/SCI is what you want...this translates to $$ on the outside.

My job is awesome, I dont wear a uniform, and I get to see lots of very cool places in the intelligence community. Send me a pm if you want to know more, or want to know what its really like without the recruiter bs

ATC - sorry but that stuff was easy. I was tower, but if you do it and they give you the choice, go for RAPCON. I worked w/ a guy that was a tower controller for 4 years, he got out as a SrA, got on at Houston center training to be a radar controller starting at 90k.

As a former Crypto Tech, let me say that's not exactly true. I wouldn't advise it unless you want to work for state/federal government in the future.

Xaos list was better for translating into civilian opps, unless you have a direct route planned, like FBI, CIA, etc.

Ralf also is right. Go X ray tech or anything medical and you have a guaranteed job, pretty much.

What's more important is what you want to do. Medical, Intel, computer, etc.

As prior service military you'll get opportunities those who didn't serve won't, but pick something you like. Who knows, you might end up doing 20 and getting a guaranteed retirement.

Whatever you do, get your school guaranteed in your contract.

I think your options are limited without a degree. Then you'd go straight to OTS. At any rate, the Air Force is a good gig. Just realize that you'll move where Uncle Sam wants, and there's no leaving.
I'd suggest getting something that has a high security clearance. That, and stop smoking weedz evary day.

Remember the don't ask don't tell policy is still in effect.... if you plan on HGS with mondinga and aatrex it's best if you do it in your wall locker so you don't get caught by the military's homo police.
