My top ten cities to live in

I prefer the country. My dream home is actually a log cabin next to a warm, blue lake somewhere that the tress go on for miles and the clouds seem to drift carelessly in the distance. I want the inside of my cabin to appear as if there is zero technology. (APPEAR) I want to live somewhere that I can't be eaten if I am outside at night. In fact, this cabin and my property, which only needs to be about a mile square, will have a fence around it high enough to keep maneaters from coming into my yard and eating my children. I also want a recording studio somewhere hidden in the trees on my preoperty where I can record songs whenever I feel like it and even let bands record there who come through the nearest city on tour (which would probably be Portland, Maine or something). I am not a big fan of cities, however convenient they may be, because the violence gets on my damn nerves. Not to mention, I get sick of hearing sirens all the damn time. Bring on the forests. I want to be like Grizzly Adams, minus the hard work. Slap a red Hummer parked out back behind my three-car garage, btw.

Cities suck.

La Crosse is smaller city than a lot of what's listed here, full of mostly college kids.. Has beautiful scenary! Nothing beats the friendly atmosphere in Hawaii, though.

so i visited Minneapolis in high school with a friend, her very old grandmother fixed us something that she insisted was called a "little lunch" and said it was a twin cities and northern european thing.....

anyone heard of this?

and just like when we played EQ, you still your own viewpoint as the only valid one.

because it's part of my lifestyle? how is weed any different from your choice to drive around in rediculous looking mod rice-burner cars? or have you "grown out of that" now, as most mainstream people would say is inevitable?

I'll tell you what, i know a lot more 50 year old men that smoke pot than 50 year old men that drive a bright-green modded honda civic with racing tires and decals.

My grandfather was straight off the boat from Norway (his name was Swen, how cool is that?), so Lutefisk and Lefse were no strangers. Not liking fish, I've never tried lutefisk, but lefse was ok.

Twin cities = Minneapolis and St Paul. Lutefisk is great if you like your fish jellied and rotten. Fucking Norwegiens. The shit they come up with. They make something here, forget what it's called but it's basically cow's blood and flour.

Milwaukee is ghetto. The suburbs are even ghetto.

I won't live anywhere with a population over 10k. 5k being optimal. And outside of town at that.

Agree with Minrott.. I've done the big city thing, and compared to living in WI where a big town is 20k people (in my area, not talking about madison and milwaukee) I would never go back to city. It's so much more peaceful here.

i think about 75-100K people is good for me because you can have a certain level of amenities such as restaurants, libraries, shopping, public transit etc and yet still be able to drive 20 mins from my house and be on a logging road in the mountains and go biking or hiking etc

anything under like 20k population and weird shit starts to happen like i can't find soy milk in the grocery store or people don't know what frisbee golf is or think that playing d&d means we wear black robes and light candles. I guess i can see how the country life is nice for some people but i'm too conditioned to a different way of life to live in that kind of environment i guess.

I still say of all the places I've lived in and been to, Portland, OR will always be where I want to call home. Clean, beautiful, seasons, laid back people, and a fuckin coffee shop on every corner. So much <3 for that place.

20 years ago you'd be right, and in some parts probably are Metranon. But in my little town of 7,000, you can have all the soy milk you want, there's a frisbee golf league, and fantasy genre entertainment is generally accepted.

While we may lack the choices available in dining and entertainment venues, the town has interstate access, and I'd rather be 30 minutes from those things than vice versa. But to each his own. 100k isn't even that big in the general scope of things.

i will say that i do miss great lakes beer, probably the only thing i really miss not living in the midwest anymore...canadian beer is pretty good i guess but not all its rumored to be, i mostly end up sticking to Stella Artois or Tiger these days
