I'm back (sorta)

Postby Eziekial » Thu Oct 13, 2005 8:59 am

Hi folks, I was out of the loop for a while working for the Navy in DC and now in a new job down in Fort Lauderdale. Got a new car, new apartment and nursing a broken heart. All is well.
I'm back in a cube so posting will be difficult without prying eyes so I may be limitied in responses. Anyway, hope everyone has a great day!

No need to say "Yo" in that sentence.

The suffix on Tengo implies possession to the first person.

The yo is for formal speaking though. It depends. You can use both and be correct.

The use of Yo although not needed, is perfectly proper in this situation. It is considered more "experienced" spanish to not use it however, because it is a bit redundant.

Yeah, I speak a couple other random languages but not enough of any of them to consider it a third.

Fuck that. I'll tell ya a better skill to have in life. Respect where the fuck you are and follow the "When in Rome" philosophy. Don't expect natives to take kindly to you barging in and forcing them to be subject to your language.

It's funny. Liberals and peacemongers have a fit when the US goes abroad and does that kind of shit yet have no problem with them coming here and demanding we learn their language.

I'll stick with my English, thank you..broken as it is. If I choose to learn a second language, it will be one of the cooler ones like Russian or German. Not a language that every beaner and wetback speaks.

The point to learning Spanish is that there is a huge market for it. If I can take my college education in my field of work, make a great resume, show off my skill, and then on top of it tell them I am bilingual, any company will be more than happy to hire me. In fact, I will make more money solely based on the fact that I am bilingual.

It's sad that it has become that way. How about forcing everyone to speak English so that step is skipped? (Unless you're working with foreign companies etc.)

What about the poor souls who escaped Mexico via car dashboard who need to call someone to schedule something. Maybe you are a receptionist for a school that teaches ESL. Might need to know spanish then, eh? :boots:

At a dental office I worked in in my home town, which was five miles from the air force base, a chick worked our front desk who was fluent in spanish and I guarantee you she got the job mainly for that reason.

My bf is a french major. There are tons of things you can do with a second language. That's the not the same as "letting in some mexicans that can't speak our language and demand we learn theirs." the two have nothing to do with each other.

International business is one option. Education is another, PR, consulting...
