It was funny. They cancel a season and most folks just went about their business here like "yeah hockey cancelled..did ya see that new jackie chan movie?"

Was really hoping they would have cancelled this season too. More time for other sports highlights on SportsCenter/ESPN Ticker.

Now if we could just get NBA to cancel a season or at least shave off 4 fuckin months of it.

I like the new NHL better than the one before the lockout. With all the new rules now there are a lot more exciting games being play.

I'm just glad to see hockey back

if every american NHL team folded, and it came back to just canada, i'd be more than happy

actually, i'd love to see them fold about 5-10 teams, make every team stronger

good stuff

lol canada can hardly support the teams they have now.

i agree though, most of the these southern teams can fuck right off. i would be thrilled to see the league down to 20-24 teams. talent is spread too thin with 30.

eh? The only teams that were somewhat cash strapped were Edmonton, and Calgary (prior to salary cap)

regardless, without canadian teams, there is no NHL

with the Salary cap, you'll start to see cups being dominated by the canadian teams again

as i recall 4 of the original 6 are in the states :). there might not be an NHL without canadian players, but the NHL would be just fine without canada. even hockey night in canada was seeing a huge slump in ratings.

for being 'canadas sport' you guys have really let your game down. the only contender for the cup is ottawa this season, so goodluck with your "cups being dominated by canadian teams". i doubt you'll see a cup in canada for quite some time yet.

After 5 games, sens are the best team in the league. Now if we can only get Havlac to stop kicking people... :ugh:

the NHL would not exist without canadian teams, period

I'm trying to figure out how we've let our game down? Ottawa, Vancouver, and Calgary all have very good shot to be in the finals, and no canadian team will finish last in their division~

because youve got 6 out of 30 teams. thats how youve let your sport down. broke ass cities cant even afford to support a team. arent very faithful to your 'religion'.

nashville was deemed a higher quality market over places like winnipeg. im sure there are groups or individuals wealthy enough in canada that could have attracted one of the latest bullshit expansion teams... yet nobody did.

You really are a clueless fuck, aren't you?

where to start?

population base
US is what, 10 times larger than canadas? Kind of stands to reason there are more markets that could sustain a team in the US vs Canada

Canadian teams that folded were smaller marketplaces, that couldn't afford the exchange rate then
All salaries are paid in USD, and when the canadian dollar was like 69c it was incredibly expensive for canadian teams to pay dollar for dollar the same as the american teams

the arenas were full, teams just couldn't afford to spend stupidly like americans (see rangers, wings, and flyers for example)

ok. way to prove your own shit wrong. canada cannot sustain the NHL, but without the 6 canadian teams there wouldnt be an NHL. whatever you say buddy.

no its really not, but im curious as to why you canadians seem to think so?

Because it's true?

If all the Canadian teams left the NHL, the NHL would most likely fold. If the opposite happened, the NHL would be fine.

im pointlessly arguing, because personally i would love to see more teams in canada and less in the states. especially the southern states, that shit pisses me off. i still disagree though. as stated by tikker, the money is in the states.

there will always be hockey in the nothern states, its just a popular here as it is in canada. you guys like to take the claim as it being your sport, but youre sharing with those of us directly south of the border.

WTS reading comprehension

All I said was that smaller canadian markets had trouble competing with free spending american cities when the exchange rate was insane

with the new salary cap, and the dollar being almost identical, more players will choose to play at home when they can now
