it's a blast, i've got 30,000+ angry barbarians on my northern border in 3 seperate Hordes. and only about 1,300 men protecting the Christian world against them

if you don't buy it, at least get patch 1.3 for Rome, it fixes the bug where the AI lifts all its sieges each time the game is loaded

It's the expansion for Rome: Total War.

Guys remember the Medieval and Shogun games? It's like those were only more fun.

Rome TW is an amazing game. What's different with this versus Rome and M:TW?

some of the barbarian factions(huns, vandals, etc) start off as a "Horde". which means they own no cities, all of their population are military units(which cost 0 upkeep in horde mode), and they have a LOT of troops. like a large city's worth(10k-15k, on default unit size). in that nomad mode they rampage around like you'd expect a mass of barbarians to do, sacking cities. other factions can become a horde if their last city is conquered

it's pretty awesome watching a domino effect, one horde drives another faction to form a horde, and so on. it is historically fitting, a lot of barbarians didn't want any part of the Huns, so they packed up and tried to find refuge in the Roman world. and it definitely keeps the game fresh. you can play one of the civilized nations, like the Western or Eastern Roman empires. or play a horde, and make a beeline to sack Rome.

the SS's taxx posted show off night battles. good generals can initiate those, and only generals with the night battle trait can bring their troops to reinforce an army that gets attacked next to them.

the only other major change that comes to mind is religion, it's back. a lot like it was in Medieval, each city has a % that believes in either christianity, zoroastrianism, or paganism. christianity has buildings to keep the population happier, but pagan temples make fresh trained troops start off as veterans. i havn't messed around with Zoroastrianism yet
