I'll pick up Civ 4 soon after release. I have yet to play a bad Sid game. Heck, even the Pirates re release was brilliant. It'll be a nice change of pace from the regurgitation of FPS and RTS.

No, you are a PC gaming noob if you loved the civ series after Civ 2. Everything after that has been complete crap.

GalCiv>>>>> civ3. Try it. It is what MoO3 should have been. http://www.stardock.com

The only other ones in that genre were what? CTP3 which was light years ahead of Civ3 in gameplay as long as you only played against other humans. The AI could not kill you, ever, even if you left one city open and declared war on all other civs adn cycled through until 3000AD. But for MP is was great, depending on how Civ4 is you should see about finding a bargin bin copy of CTP3 and playing some online games. MoO3 also was out, which was an abortion. And I am sure there was something else, but I can't remember what.

Galciv was good, but being able to design your own ships is half the fun in any space TBS. as is being able to control the battles. galciv2 might be worth buying though.

i have Call to Power 1, but not 2, i don't think there's a CTP3? if it's got crappy AI i wouldn't want to bother with it. AI difficulty is one of the most important parts of a game like that. multiplayer is another story, but how long can you get ppl to sit down and play a game that takes hours upon hours. civ3 got around any AI shortcomings by good 'ole massive cheating and aggression.

a definite improvement i do remember from CTP though, was not having to build umpteen million workers to irrigate/mine/road every square.

Yeah Civ4 is a good game. Buggy, but easily the best since Civ2.
