TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama quarterback Brodie Croyle wondered aloud before the season, ``Why not us?''

Why can't the Crimson Tide be 2005's version of Auburn?

He meant coming out of nowhere for an undefeated season, like last year's Tigers, not getting shut out of the national championship picture -- like last year's Tigers.

Both prospects are seeming less far-fetched with each passing week for the fifth-ranked Tide, stuck in fifth place in the BCS standings despite victories over Tennessee and Florida and a 7-0 start.

``If you go undefeated and you do what Auburn did last year, I don't know about them but I'd argue until the day I die that we were the best team that played in the year 2005,'' Croyle said Tuesday.

We'll see when they play Georgia in the SEC title game.

Too bad Notre Dame didn't finish off SC. Unfortunately that still wouldn't have propelled the Tide to #1 with VT firmly at #3 due to the Vick marketing hype.

Imagine when these hayseeds hear some shit like that on the audio news, though. Most of them can't read so it has to be audio/video. Then, a process is started that resembles when a beehive kicks off a dance resulting in all redneck UofAlabama fans all collectively believing the same bullshit story and trying to convince everyone else of such premise in their own special-ed belligerent asinine uneducated fashion.

You couldn't possibly understand unless you lived in a state that had no professional sport. Imagine the cast of hee-haw in your face screaming about how their team is the "greatest of all time" and "could beat any NFL team" in the most annoying redneck way imaginable.

I was basicly dreading how a soundbyte like my above quote affects the bama fans.
