our military should only be put in harm's way when there is a direct and obvious threat to American national security. You have not shown one shred of evidence that such a threat existed from Iraq, only half-assed attempts to derail my argument by posting facts that while in some cases true, don't really hold any weight when you look at the real cost of the war, which is already staggering.

Thankfully, that's just your opinion and not a fact.

Shit, Saddam isn't even smart enough to kill himself, compare that to Adolf.

I take it you don't view Hitler as having been radical, murderous and eventually anti US then? I was not comparing thier military strategy, intelligence or leadership ability, there is no comparison there. If you want me to make a further comparison though they were both agressive oppresive dictators who had a flagrant lack of respect for human life, who when they were given the opportunity and not stopped built up a military and invaded other countries. The point however that you seemed to miss, or I guess were attempting to discredit based on arguing a technicallity, is that when you attempt passification and diplomacy with these types of rutheless rulers it fails, when you show a strong response or use out right force it works.

Only if you consider it more of a threat to have our military openly assulted in a forien land, then to have people secretly looking for ways to kill our citizens at home and taking advantage of any way they can find. Personally I'd rather have thier attention focused on our troops who have weapons pointed at them in a battlefield situation where we are prepared to deal with them, rather then focusing on our citizens as they go about thier daily lives and taken by surprise.

fixed that for you.

Metranon wrote:Mark my words, we are going to regret ever stirring up that nest of scorpions when all is said and done.

Perhaps you think it would have been better to allow Sadam or one of his sons stir them up in the future? I'll bet you thought that we would see increased terrorist activities toward the US due to our involvment, that we wouldn't capture Sadam, that elections in Iraq wouldn't take place successfully, that our troops would meet nearly insurmountable resistance against Iraq's Republican Guard also didn't you? These former predictions did not turn out to be the reality, and I'm confident yours won't either, and even if it does we still have the bonus that we are significantly reducing thier numbers on a daily basis.

Those who are willing to be the most ruthless always win. The pacifists always lose, because the anti-pacifists kill them.
