I am coming to the NT for advice.

I don't know why.

So I have this job, and it's cush. I get paid $10 an hour cash, and a bonus for on time closings, and they are great about working around my school schedule.

I will probably make $24,000 this year which is good because I only work 25 hours a week.

I sit in a real estate office and I make sure that all the files close on time. If you have ever bought a home, you have an idea of what that entails. For those of you who don't, this entails ordering inspections, keeping on mortgage companies butts to make sure we have loan aproval and papers get to title comapnies. I make sure the agents get paid the proper commission on each deal. I write checks, I do all the banking.

I love my boss. He sold me my first home years ago, and he is like my older brother. THey have been great to me. He is very chauvenisitc though, and he will not take blame for anything. He also threatens to hold my checks for a week until I remind him that I can write my own checks from the accounts. He is dishonest, and cheap. He also calls me EVERY SINGLE weekend and complains about stupid stuff. He probably has the worst rep out of al the realtors out there.

The girl who used to have this job moved to a ReMax office. I just got a call from my best friend who got me the job here. She said that the other office is sick of that girl and her unprofessionalism, and she is getting fired when they make their move to Century 21. We are a different branch though. That goes into effect in about a month or so.

Anyway, this office does 4 times as much business as our office, and my BASE starts at $36,000 a yr. I onyl know these people from reputatiopn though. There office is also farther away from my house, but I have day care there, and I was looking into an apartment in that town anyway.

Oh, give me some advice. I am confused, and I hatre making these decisions by myself.

I am very loyal which makes me want to stay on this sinking ship, but I also have to think about my wellfare, and the amount of stress this boss puts me through.

Thanks.

I always go where the money is. Providing I will not have to put in more than 50 hours a week consistantly.

The money is worthless if I don't have time to spend it or never see my family.

Ultimately which job you would be happier at wins out. But that's a no-brainer.

But that is my point, which is better? THe cush job whre I am continually stressed? Or the other job where I have to prove myself and will lose the friendships of those I have made here?

If your old boss is gonna hold a grudge for you getting a better job then he's an asshole.

If you are continually stressed, it is not a cush job.

My job is a cush job and I work 50+ hours a week... I use that term very loosely... I usually just sit around and watch movies and actually only work 10-20 hours a week. The rest of the time I'm just hanging out with my coworkers who are also some of my closest friends.

Do what is right for you.

Yeah, like atensen I'm trying to figure out how your current job is a cush job?

lemme see, you have the chance to make 50% MORE, with a reputable company, and you're not sure you want to take it?

Again, I think my biggest hang up is the loyalty thing.

If you make 1/3 more for 4 times the work and it impacts your school then I think you should evaluate your long term priorities first, versus the fast cash.

It doesn't hurt to talk to the new group and evaluate what will be a better fit. It seems you have some issues with your current job, but also some good things.

Consider your options and make sure you have all the facts, then make the best decision for yourself.

I had taken school into consideration, and I already decided that I was going to be going to night school after this semester is over. I can't handle missing two days from work.

Agree on f-loyalty.

Don't think for 1 sec that any manager or company won't rip your head off and piss down your throat without a second thought.

There is no loyalty in corp. america today. The unions (sorry to say) and the big business killed the mutual respect that existed when your grandparents went to work.

At the same time, you will be stepping out of your comfort zone and you know the saying, the pastures aren't always greener on the other side.

Loyalty is only worthwhile in company's that are loyal to you.

What would your current company do if your appendix suddenly burst on you, and from some complications you wouldnt be back to work in a month? Dont make yourself believe that they are loyal to you.

I'd much rather take a challenging job that the challenge is the stress, rather than the "cush" job where the boss is an asshole and the only challenge is trying to figure out what crawled up his ass that day.

Isn't that technically illegal? Thought you could put in for max of 6 weeks family leave before a job could replace you? Unless that's only in certain fields or she was part time and not covered.

think it depends on the state. michigan employers can get rid of employees at will, which is why i still support unions.

Heh heh yeah I saw this episode of The Office. It was really funny, in a British kind-of way. I really liked that episode where the boss is handing out awards down at the local Chili's restaurant. Now that's funny! Your particular episode is not so funny. It sounds like that typical 90's sitcom episode where it's supposed to be a funny show but they are dealing with a really serious topic and nobody knows when to turn on the canned laugh-track. Makes ya feel rather uncomfortable. Makes you grab the collar on your shirt and strech it out.

Oh yeah, I also remember in that episode that you took the better money and ran. Yeah and I think you lived happily ever after but that could only happen on ABC as that's the Disney network and The Office is on NBC and they only give you the bird.

Who is this guy?

If you were going to take night classes, the boss is a jerk, you make much more money at the new place....I think you had this figured out yourself when you typed it. Go for the bigger, more business company.

As long as it's not gonna mess up your school and time with your kids I'd go for the new job. I'm sure it's expected that you'll eventually jump ship just like everyone else in your office. It's the nature of the real estate biz.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.
