Money isn't everything. If you say or think it is, you're a pathetic excuse for a human being with no purpose in life.

No offense, but anyone that says that shows how little real-world experience they have.

Without money, you have jack shit. No ride, no shelter from the elements, no food, no entertainment, fuck, you're basically knocked into the stone age.

Actually, you're worse off than stone agers because them fuckers knew how to get food with a spear and build a shelter-which I doubt half of you mama's boys could do in the wild.

From a job, money is pretty damn near everything.
Ouchy is right.

If the other job gives you enough to move out, I say go for it. But who will watch the kiddos while you are at school at night? I am only guessing your roommate is doing it now.

Fuck that. Fuck money and fuck capitalist focus. I'll realize that you in order to aquire the useless shit one must accumulate, a person needs money to an extent. But Harrison is right, money-focused people are the scum of the earth.

I mean, listen to yourself...
Without money, you have jack shit. No ride, no shelter from the elements, no food, no entertainment

Everywhere you go you're paying for something. Land is developed into concrete so people have places to buy things and store the stuff they bought. Without money you're knocked into something worse than stone-age, you're knocked into an economic grid. I only wish it were as easy as spearing tigers with your tribe for fur and chopping down trees for wood. Now there's just concrete. Concrete, people with money, people without money, and land you don't own.

So what is this "real world experience" you say I am so desperately in need of? I'll without hesitation claim I've more experience in what the real world is today than you. 9-5 with house payments isn't a "real world" if that's where you're going, as the real world is anything but comfortable.

Claim all you want, I have been on my own for the past 14 god damn years and saw where you get without that money. Try to live on that bullshit philosophy and let me know how the folks at the homeless shelter are treating you.

The only son of a bitches claiming money isn't important are those that are filthy rich or those that have been spoonfed from mommy and daddy and haven't had a chance to see what it's like to do without it.

I am, and have been, living that bullshit philosophy, and most certainly don't fall under that that catergory. The world isn't yours to design, and mine to endure.

Where you get without money delineates the absurdity of money, anyone with any real world experience should know that.

Ok, then oh enlightened one, please share with me how to obtain a home, a car, food, clothing, medical insurance (or the ability to pay medical bills outright), and all the other wonderful expenditures life brings with it without money.

Hmm--these things are just unimportant "useless shit" that us capitalists waste our time/focus on I guess.

Where you get without money? You get to be the delusional hippy sitting on a street corner complaining about how his disability/medicaid isn't covering his gangrenous foot-or better yet one of them Manson types digging in dumpsters to feed their commune.

Exactly. I never said it was possible to live in the world without money, I said money-driven people are "the scum of the earth." It <i>is</i> possible to maintain a minimalist outlook without being a hippie.

You have got to be money driven. You can hate the fact that it is the way it is, but you have got to acknowledge that life is money driven.

Want to eat? Need money!
Want a bed in a warm domicile? Need money!
Want to fix that broken bone? Need money!
Want antibiotic for that pnuemonia? Need money!
Want a winter coat? Need money! (Unless you live where you can hunt for furs, and know how to prepare them properly.)

Life is money driven. We don't live in some hippy dreamscape where we all run around naked and eat neverending cornucopias of fruit.

Human beings are driven to eat, driven to stay alive--to do that these days you need money. How minimalist are you thinking man? A fucking teepee and scraps of leftovers from the dumpster? Anything else and guess what-you need money!

Give up the hippie steriotype, it's inapplicaple.

You are not reading. Life is not money driven. Those basic desires are just all owned, and have to be bought. If you must question the extent of my minimalist ideals I'm talking 1 house, 1 car (if necessary), and not a shitload of children kinda shit, not some hippie dreamscape.

The focus of money is a hindrance to real growth. When I say money driven, I mean out for profits. Not "shit I need a hammer, better build one." Stop posting the same thing.

It applies very well to folks who believe that money is not important.

OK, so are you referring to greedy people that are driven to get/seek more than they need? You attacked me for pointing out that you need money for the basic necessities thus starting this shit.

I'm becoming rather impatient talking to you. Might I so humbly request you analyze my posts before shooting them down, as it is becoming ever so clear that you either have a short memory or aren't trying to see where I'm coming from (this is a good tactic for argueing, is knowing what you're argueing against).

Whatever, dude.

Fin says "money isn't everything. If you say or think it is, you're a pathetic excuse for a human being with no purpose in life."

I say "Money is everything because you got jack shit without it-including basic life necessities." (Which to me seem like a pretty useful purpose-citing that the majority of folks spouting that bullshit has no clue wtf it is like to have no money thus removing the ability to fully see how driven we are.)

Then you go off with some hippy shit about concrete and how you wish we were spearing shit and chopping down trees then conveniently backpedal the argument to everything other than necessities all with some boast about your life experience being superior somehow.

Twist it all you like, you are still faced with the fact that your ass has to go get some greenbacks in order to get anywhere, or do anything, therefore making you money driven. It is the natural human condition. Instead of spears, it's briefcases.

How much is enough for some? It's more about gluttony than about being comfortable.

Ouchy, his point is there are people who are all about money, and people who get by and realize money does not buy happiness <although Visa goes a damn far way>. Basic needs is not a consideration. Our country pays welfare and other benefits, so that's not really an option for most, unless they are homeless or mentally ill and without help, which is another thread in itself.

Given our country pays people not to work and has no interest student loans for people in their 50s to live off of and not work, many choose to live minimalist lives and just get by. You really do not need to have much money to survive here. Poor areas require very little money to survive on the bare necessities, and people certainly do not have to even work to make it there.

Case in point about cash:

I have friends who make next to nothing and are amazingly happy. They live in a small house with two kids, but do wonderfully.

My uncle makes 7 figures yearly, and his family is the most dysfunctional, fubar mess one could imagine.
What saves a man is to take a step. Then another step.

wonderful. where the hell have you been? The above statement sounds nice, but thats about it.

Even companies showing record growth these days, still FUCK over their employees.

In today's economy the employee is not an investment that should be made to grow along with the company, they are the bottom line...Nothing more than an expense; which if, can be reduced, will be.

I'll say it again... IF you are going to work for someone else forget about being loyal. Earn as much as you can. If you have to jump jobs constantly to do it, then so be it.

My roommates do not babysit my kids. I do not ask, they do not offer. Which is fine with me. I have full time day care from 6-6 on Monday-Friday. It costs me $100 a week. I go to school during the day, and my employer is fine with working around my school schedule Right now I have classes Mon and Wed 8a-2pm

If I move out to the other town, then I will have daycare for $50 a week, I just have to pack food and drink. She also is one of my best friends and babysat my kids for a long time and has no problems watching him until 8pm on nights I have school.

So, in summation, daycare is not an issue.

No I wouldn't, but here is an example of the petty bullshit that I deal with on a daily basis. My bosses desk is cluttered with papers and faxes and bills that he does not pay. (They shut our electricity off last week)

My desk has a blotter, an in box, a phone and a computer monitor and keyboard. They are all great at giving me assignments 10 minutes before I leave for the day. They know I have to leave my a certain time to pick up my son. Usually 5:30pm. So last night at 5:15 they are all in my office giving me problems they need solved with their files. I go through, make notes on each one, leave them in a stack on my desk so that I can take care of it when I come in the next morning. This moring, the stack is moved to who knows where, and the sticky notes are left all over my desk instead of the original files I had put them on. There is a note on my desk from my boss that says "You need to start cleaning your desk"

This is just his way of controlling what is going on. My desk was clean except for a stack of files with sticky notes on them, now there are sticky notes all over my desk and papers everywhere. Its not a confidentiality issue, because I lock my office when I leave. It's a He has to be in control issue.

This is so frustrating.

Ashly, I've been offered the job, but we are meeting next week to discuss terms, so I haven't officially taken the job yet.

Take the new job....working for a control freak is almost as bad as living with one.

I would say thats a good reason to go find somewhere else to work, sense you are just another bill on the desk, that someday might not get paid.

Money might not be everything, but it does give more options when it comes for what you can do with your freetime.

Update:

I met with the new company and pay and hours and everything sounds wonderful. They decided to give the girl they have in the position now another last chance. They don't want to let her go before Christmas, as she is a single mother herself.

My boss paid me with a rubber check, so that kind of sealed the deal with my decision I have been fretting over.
