I liked the old Wing Commander games, and Privateer was good, but this has some nutty mouse control system from what I understand, so not sure.
Anyone played it and have a recommendation?
As a side note, how's Starlancer as well?

freelancer single player you basically have to keep going through the story because if you veer off and start doing the fun things that aren't story-related in the hidden areas and you get an eagle and the nomad weapons, the game's basically over
it was really fun for me but only during network or online play

not played Starlancer,,,that like freelance II? Freelancer was awesome. enough exploration to do just about anything. I spent quite alot of time jumping form system to system grabbing missions and finding derlicts, which if I remember right there are about 50 derelict ships out there with some sweet ass gear on them to trick your ship out. When I finished I had one of the best ships in game with some wicked looking cannons on it. Not much i could not take on.
As for the story line of the game definently worthwhile.
play time if you dont just run thru the main story but do some of the alternate lines was about 2 or 3 weeks of game play. 5 hours each day or so.

the storyline was a rip off of Privateer, which was probably a rip off of Elite. omg a lost super duper alien civilization has been found and is a threat to the current balance of power, how original...
Freelancer was good cause it had multiplayer, and was a decent shooter game, but singleplayer was like playing diablo. you'd have insta hull repair/shield power capsules if you ever got in trouble, which only happened in the first hour of the game. after that you'd be in a ship that could blow up god, and be able to buy a ship 1000x better from each later area of the galaxy in storyline.
save yourself 20 bucks, and DL the remake of privateer that runs on windows xp, and has joystick support
