I considered them a weak team in a weaker division, but this makes me think they're a contender. Especially if Orton can be consistent and make good decisions.

All orton does is not make mistakes. Very similiar to the way Big Ben played last year. Just didnt make mistakes and get one or two drives where they score, and let the defense do the rest.

If you can run the ball, and play good defense and special teams, that's all you need a QB to do (not turn the ball over)

That gets you to the post season.

In the playoffs, though, you still need a playmaker at QB, IMHO.

Ask the Ravens about their superbowl win though, Trent Dilfer was hardly a playmaker.

A playmaker at QB certainly helps though.

well, depends on how hot your team is

if you can hold explosive offenses to 3 points every week, you don't need a playmaking QB

don't get me wrong, I'm a bears fan from way back, but I have no illusions that they're superbowl contenders

I think they'll win a playoffgame, but I don't think they'll get to the show

altho, a steelers/bears game would be divine (unless you like pass happy offenses, heh)

Tik said GOOD D. The 2000 Balt D is a little better than good. They were lights out fucking amazing. I fully agree if you can hold teams to 3 points, you'll win regardless of if Tony Banks or Anthony Wright is your QB. The problem is with the changes in rules over the last 10 years, it's harder and harder to shutdown Os completely, especially when a DB can sneeze and get a P.I. penalty.

That said, Dilfer did make the plays and good decisions that enabled them to win. Since they let Dilfer go, how many more times have they made it to the big dance, despite having a Top 5 RB, killer D, but shoddy QB play?

Davis only had 4 carries while Delhomme was running for his life most of the game. The Bears had 8 sacks.
