i got to the abortion thread a little late and it was already locked... but i wanted to comment on something from it, at the risk of opening up the boys' bowels for more diarrhea of the mouth hehe
i saw gianna jessen speak at a conference one time and WOW does she ever pack a punch. i don't think there was a dry eye in the house.
i'm pro-choice--not because i agree with abortion per se but more because even if abortion were illegal, it would STILL be going on only without proper medical expertise (although that thread made me question said "expertise"). at any rate, hearing firsthand accounts from abortion survivors like jessen really puts things in a different perspective... SOMETHING has to change, be it the medical practices or the laws regarding the allowable time periods for abortion.
I can understand why someone is Pro Choice, but even many people who are support limits on abortion, such as no abortions past 12 weeks which is what many other Western countries, including France, do.
Anyways, if Roe was struck down, Abortion would not be illegal, just mandated from the state level as it was before. Perhaps then we could actually pass Partial Birth Abortion bans, which most people favor.

I am stuck behind a rock and a hard place on the abortion issue. While I like to believe that it is none of anyone's business what a woman chooses to do with her body, it is so hard to see these women using abortion as a form of birth control, and I don't WANT to judge them, but I know i do. Not that all women use abortions as a form of birth control, but.....

I agree with Leah here. I'm pro-choice because abortions will be performed legally or illegally and I would rather see them performed in the hands of a licensed doctor than in an ally with a coat hanger.
However, it seems that the amount of care put into these procedures needs to be drastically reworked.
On another note, it must have been amazing to see Jessen speak. Quite an opportunity you had Leah.

Pro-choice I am as well and having a limit is good but if roe was struck down, your bible belt states would most likely outlaw it. There needs to be a federal law across the board and not left up to states. So Lyion while you are right to say the moment roe is struck down abortion isn't illegal but within a few months time, it would be in several states.
If anything I could agree with abortion being legal in our country and the states can put a law in place regarding time frame (1st tri-mester, etc).
