License fees?

Postby Darcler » Tue Dec 06, 2005 1:15 pm

Ok so I will spare you ALL of yesterdays dramallama events, but this is bugging me.
Gid went to put me on his new car insurance policy, as we are married and its the law, but the website said that my DL has been revoked.
I figured it was because the retard at the court house didnt file all of my paid fines last year when I paid my ticket, in full, for driving without insurance and expired tags.
So I called this afternoon to see what was going on, and she told me that it was revoked because of not having insurance. When I paid my ticket, I had to show them my new insurance. SO I told her this and she said there was a fee for driving without a license, and gave me a number to call.
Now, before I raise a huuuuge stink about this to the people I am about to call, does this sound right at all?
I mean, shouldnt the fine I paid be the fee for driving without insurance?

So, on top of paying the ticket, another fee is involved?
Because I always thought that the punishment was paying the fines for the ticket, not additional fees.

I have never had to pay extra fees on top of ticket fines before.

you paid a fine for driving without insurance

at some point you'd have to go into the DMV or whatever, and renew your licence

just paying off the money you owed them doesn't constitute renewing your licence

No, on top of paying the fee to get my license redone, I have to pay a fee for driving with no insurance....so really, its 3 fees. One for the ticket, one for renewing and one for this weird charge.

Hmmm, well after you go pay your fines, just make sure you have your liscence current, insurance, and with those two, go make sure you have registration... keep all three in your wallet and you'll never have to worry again about all that. I've left my wallet at home by accidents lots of times and even got pulled over without ANYTHING on me, but all I had to do was go to the courthouse and show everything to them and get the ticket waived, no fees at all. I think it's because I did indeed have all of my stuff. This is after sitting in the back of the patrol car giving the cop all my information.

I have everyting current and on me at all times. I do need to redo my registration tags sometime this month, but anyway..

Just seems silly to me. I'll pay it, of course, because I hate fighting and argueing with people, but I still dont like it.

California is inredibly anal about having insurance. The mandatory MINIMUM fine they can hand out for driving without it is over $1500. As a result, anyone who isn't a complete idiot has at least the bare minimum at all times.

Holy jesus. My ticket was just $282. I'm skeered to find out what the other fine amount is.

That sucks. A simple slap of the hand would be fine for me lol. For a lot of people, they have to put aside money to renew tabs, etc.. and then if they don't, they have to pay fees, which puts them in even further financial strain.

I'm glad that shit is in place. How pissed of would you be if some monkey slammed into the back of your car and doesn’t have insurance to cover the damage?

I agree with Goose. In fact, it should be more harsh. If you are driving without insurance and on expired tags, you are retarded and a douche bag

If you receive two fines of the same type, driving without DL/insurance, they impose a "surcharge" in the state of Texas. (happened to me). For two no insurance tickets I got a $260 surcharge. If it's an insurance thing you also have to file a form with your insurance company called an SR-22. You pay the company (100ish bucks) and the state(100 bucks) to file this form. You then have to keep it on file for 2 years without defaulting on payments or your company will report it and license gets revoked... again...

They send no reminders. No follow ups. Nothing. Just revoke if you dont pay. It sucks.

What sucks is you driving around with no insurance.

Texas is one of the most costly states to insure your vehicle in because it’s full of morons who decide they don’t need it.

Fuck you in your stupid ass for not insuring your self and driving us honest folk’s insurance costs up!

Fuck Texas. Fuck it in it's stupid ass.

The way the less than stelar English speaking person on the phone sounded, they also fucked up and didnt file that I paid my ticket correctly.
I knew this was going to happen, too, because the clerk was kinda slow. Maybe it was her first day, she looked frustrated.

Gid also has a warrant out in Dallas for failure to go to court, which was partially not his fault. There was no date/time/place on the ticket, the cop never told us this was a ticket so we took it as a warning. But since we recieved no calls or notices, we now have a warrant on our hands. He has to dig up an extra $400, go to the office, pay a fine and make a court date, then pay whatever fines they decide to charge him there, hopefully, that will be the end of fines for that.
Gidan is a dumb ass, and I can say that because he cant log on NT anymore...

I didn't decide I didn't need insurance, I drove drunk friends home since they were in no shape to do so. (twice in one week) We get pulled over, I'm not insured on their car, and because I'm being a good friend driving them home I get "fucked in my stupid ass". I'd rather eat the fine and file forms with the state than see people I care about wind up dead. Guess I'm a moron for looking after people who can't look after themselves.

Second offense of driving without insurance should be confiscation of vehicle. On the other hand, the insurance industry in this country is fucked up beyond all recognition.

I dunno, someone needs to figure out this whole bloated insurance scam thing and get it fixed.

I am pretty sure if you have insurance it covers the vehicles and occasional drivers so someone taking my drunk ass home would be fine unless you where also driving like an asshole which warrents a ticket in my opinion.

No, YOU are retarded. Police also issue written warnings. They look exactly like tickets because they write them on the same form. I have gotten one before, and the only reason I could tell the difference was because the police officer told me it was a written warning.
