My dad was a welder right after he got out of the war (vietnam). When I was really young he worked as a custodian at a nursing home and rebuilt hot rods in his spare time. We moved to Florida when I started school where he worked for Piper aircraft as a machinist until he had several grand mal seizures at work and his epilepsy eventually made him a liability and unhirable. He went nuts in 1982 and is now a hermit of sorts living in Mississippi somewhere. My mother was a stay at home mom with a 9th grade education until shortly after my dad lost it and she went to college. She got her masters in business administration and is now the director of a clinic.

My dad was the captain of the SS Enterprise for many years. My mother was one of the founders of the fabled "Genesis Project." I haven't seen mom in ages, but dad isn't doing very well these days. After having been tourtured by the Kingons he was never quite the same. Now he's doing commercials for Priceline.

My mom has worked for the government for 35 years now, she started out with some agency I don't really remember, but she has been with the Navy for about 25 years or so. My dad was a driver for Metro when I was really young, but he has been working for comcast for a number of years doing something I don't understand with wiring and he builds and programs computers on the side.

My dad worked all his life for Gasprom(ex-USSR now Russia's oil and gas company) as a Recon Geologist in a Geological Recon & Investigation team (he traveled all over USSR and found new sites for oil or natural gas drilling), than after we moved to US he worked as a automechanic till he retired. My mom was electrical engeneer and researcher in USSR, than housekeeper and babysitter in US.

My mom was a viking queen.

since leah is slacking, i'll answer

dad was an editor at a small-town newspaper until i was two, then he got a photojournalism job at a bigger town, and then when leah was a couple years old he landed a better job at the hastings newspaper, where he worked over 20 years. they let him go a couple months ago, new management came in and began the ugly process of sweeping all the tenured employees out to make room for younger people who will work for half as much. however, now he works part time at a printing company, and teaches between two and four art photography classes per semester at Hastings College. that's not all-- the editor at the monthly magazine NEBRASKAland (the official magazine of the state's game & parks commission) is offering him an associate editor job. on top of all that, he's putting the finishing touches on a nice new flash-based website showing off all his art photography (complete with order forms ^_^) and after months of pushing i'm getting closer to convincing him to get his stuff put up in lincoln galleries. getting fired sucks, but imho it's the best thing that's ever happened to him (except spawning such awesome kids, of course)

when we moved to hastings mom got a job as the activities director at the YWCA. after a few years she got a similar spot at an assisted living facility called the Kensington (assisted living facility = kind of like a nursing home except the residents are much more independent, just not independent enough to live alone). since then she's moved on up the ladder, first becoming executive director of the kensington, then area director of two other facilities, and now she's the regional director for the midwest sector of the parent company Agemark and telecommutes from home.

sis if i missed anything feel free to add

Dad built a trailer park in south Florida in the 1950's and ran it for about 30 years with my uncles before selling the golden goose. Proceeded to blow away his fortune in the stock market. :(
Mom is superwomen with an apron and current works in sales.

My dad was an electrician for most of my life, but now with jobs for him scarce, he's been working a couple odd jobs on the side until his name makes his way to the top of the union's job list again. His latest odd jobs have included stocking produce at Sam's Club, and carrying baggage at the tiny little airport in Rochester for $5.15/hr. My poor dad. :depressed:

My mom did ultrasounds at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, but now she teaches students at the clinic... I'm not sure what exactly, I think it's for an ultrasound medical degree of some sort.

Both my parents write trade show presentations

ie: Think of the E3 conventions, where they will do stuff like have people dress up like Mortal Kombat characters and kung fu fight to unveil the new Mortal Kombat game. They do stuff like that. o.O

Man Maeya if your dad is a journeyman level electrician and he's down to minimum wage jobs because of lack of employment, he needs to move. There are tons and tons of jobs out there for that kind of skill set. I could find 5 right now in my local papers.

Biological Dad..... Owned a Plumbing Company and then was a Building Contractor and then owned a company that built passive solar homes in the 80's called Sun Castle Homes. After that I lost track of him. I think he had some bad years where he sold Amway or something after he got busted for tax evasion. Then I think he managed to start another company. Now he is in local politics and an activist for the small business community.. LMAO

Ok.. stepfater.. who is more like my real father - works at the same company as my mom. They worked at the last two companies together. Mom is one of the top sales executives at a graphic arts/printing company. stepdad does the same thing but existing sales instead of new sales. Before he got into sales he worked the printing press. When I was like 5 years old and before I was born my mom was a art teacher and is also still to this day a talented artist although she really doesn't do much artwork other than vacation photography. The travel all over the place and always come back with these wonderful pictures from around the world. She majored in Sculpture and Education at Long Island University - CW Post Campus.

My brother Adam is a VP at Aflac. He ran all of the Chicago territory but just got promoted this week to run the entire state of Michigan. He is three years younger than me and makes 10 times my salary... yes.. I am green with envy. On the down side he has to put a lot of his earnings back into his business and cover the office overhead which is very pricey in downtown Chicago. He is getting married in Cape Town, South Africa this week as well to a wonderful girl who is a teacher at a private school. Wish I could be at the wedding but just could not take the time off to go and it is very expensive to fly and stay in S.A. Adam went to GW University in D.C. Ok.. you didn't say anything about siblings but I think his job is the coolest besides my own job =)

This is a cool thread.. very interesting jobs.

Growing up (and still) my dad worked for a company called FMC which later became United Defense and now I think is called BAE Systems and they make a whole list of stuff.

My mom was a nurse working in the pediatric ward till my brother and I came along, and she's been home ever since taking care of us and doing lots of church volunteer work.

They're stuck in Rochester currently because my mom's been working at Mayo Clinic forever. He had a job in a town about 45mi away working for a privately owned electrical company, but they went under, and Rochester is predominantly under the Union.

Listening to his stories of the union, it made me mad. They didn't like him at first because he resisted joining the union for so long, so his tools disappeared, and they'd punch holes in his soda cans and put it back in his lunch box. What dipshits. Later they didn't like him because he and his team 'worked too fast' and made the others look bad. Fuck them all. :darkangel:

When I was in college at Santa Clara University, one of FMC manufacturing plant was behind the school. On some day, when you're up on the top level of the engineering building, you can see them testing the Bradley.
