Ok a bit serious on this one.

Guy came in and dropped his PC off, he told us to remove all the 'bad things'(his words not mine) off his computer. This guy is a known habitual porn surfer and on average dumps alot of cash over the years for virus removals.

Anywho nothing really clicked into place on this one till I went into his temp internet directory to remove files.

This fucker had probly 24 temp folders full of kiddie porn. most of it 5 to 8 year old girls.

Checking his Documents folder i found probably 40 megs worth of it cataloged.

We called the cops due to this of course. This was no accidental surfing.

The problem I have is worrying bout my own hide and the future of my company. If we dont turn him in we are fucked if it come back later that he was being investigated but being labeled as a Rat could be equally damaging. Am I wrong to be concerned about this part of the situation?

You turned in a guy looking at and fantasizing about very young girls. Who knows what else this freak boat had planned.

In my book that’s a pretty stand up thing to do. It should help your biz more than harm it.

There are certain things where no one sane will call anyone a rat for reporting. Kiddie porn is one of them, especially as young as you're talking about there. I don't think that a reputation of turning in kiddie porn types will do anything but enhance your business' reputation. If, say, you'd fixed some guy's CD drive and found that the problem had been a bud of pot jammed in the gears, and called the cops on him, that'd get you a Rat label. Turning in kiddie porn, oh hell no. You absolutely did the right thing.

You did the right thing. Like Goose said what might have happened if you didn't turn him in.....? I really don't even like thinking about it. You were doing your job, and you came across something illegal. I would think people would think far less of you if you hadn't turned him in.

My main problem now is keeping the computer here while the cops figure out whose fucking jurisdiction it is. It was found in one city...guy has a office in another and lives at home with his dad (guy is 40) in another city.

I have had calls in the last hour from thre different departments all claiming jurisdiction. Finally got pissed and told the Detective that just called about a hour ago, that if they dont get their shit in one sock and figure out who is in charge Im calling the Local FBI branch. I have a 24 hour turn around and it has been here for 22 hours so far. I need to get them started on this soon or he will be back for the repair.

Thanks for the support on this one guys..Like I said I am concerned about this because even though morally it was the right thing to do this is kinda my responsibility on tthe report since im the admin and manager. One thing pisses me off about this though...with turning this prick in I am missing out on about 75.00 worth of commision on the repair.

How would you feel if it was one of your kids he had pictures of on the computer? You did the right thing. Your boss should give you the $75 as a reward. Fucking pervs.

After I left my ex, I took both computers, he has some pretty fucked up shit on the computer as well. Mostly 15-18 year old girls.

bah...I think they are actually gonne sting his ass here. maybe I can ask if they would wait till after he cuts me my check for 150.00 before they jump out of the ceiling and beat his ass down. If they can maybe Ill get the money out of him before they freeze his assets

On a side note the cops have agreed to keep our name out of the paper, however since they dont have a computer consultant at the lab in town, they are going into talks with the boss. He will pimp me out to them for 120.00 an hour to go over any information obtained on a computer system when the need arises. This is not the first time they have needed a tech with certain skilz such as mine, and from what the det. said the fucker botched it last time and they lost a ton of evidence. So there is a possibility that I will work as a paid consultant for the Sherrif's department/City PD when they need a tech.

frankly I am not concerned about the money much. I just know how much cash i usually get from super pervs computers.

To give you a background on this guy he uses a old win98 acer desktop, so the keyboard is proprietary. he brought it in in a plastc bag and (this is where it gets nasty) the keyboard was stuck to the platic bag...after using rubber gloves to remove it from the bag I commenced to clean the keyboard since he requested it (still wearing surgical gloves cause the glaze on the keys are not from donut frosting) . I sprayed 3 cans of compressed air on that thing blowing dust, crusted thing i dont wanna know about, and pubic hairs out of the keyboard. after all that I decided...oh yeah this bitch is gonna get the stupid tax.

As a reference the stupid tax is an additional 50 bucks on the computer bill if there is a PIBKAC error (Problem Is Between Keyboard And Chair) and he is a repeat offender. So yeah I was gonna hit him hard for having to remove shit like that from a computer keyboard.

The biggest problem is this prick is Mennonite and they are funky about outsiders. The community could get peeved at the shop for not just taking the matter to the elders instead of the police.

You made the only choice you could have made. He deserves the stupid tax for bringing that shit to you and not just destroying the whole damn PC. Lucky he did. You may have saved some kids life from being molested... possibly your own child.
Very cool about you being able to help them with other cases as well. Do not worry about your business. Everything will fall into place. I can't imagine his community would protect him.. I would think they would cast him out for that crap.
Forget the elders.. this isn't some Everquest game.. this is real life. If you were a teacher, social worker, health care worker you would be obligated by law to report him.. actually that should follow for anyone. If not, you would be an accessory to child pornography by not reporting it.

Intellectually, you are right....these people are whacked in the head so intellect doesn't apply to them, unfortunately.

The police have promised to not advertise what happened since Kahar's boss is really worried about the backlash. We'll just have to see how it plays out.
