anyone familiar with this program?

I've decided to try and make the switch from mpeg4(divx) to a basica mpeg2 format for my media centre, but the whole decision hinges on being able to convert dvd to mpeg 2

anyone familiar with this program at all? (dvd2svcd)

SVCD's are poor quality.

you're thinking of just vcd i think?

vcd = vcr quality

svcd = dvd quality

Every SVCD I have seen shows really bad compression artifacts and the resolution is only like 480x480 or something.

I've watched a dvd and svcd side by side and not been able to tell the difference

it's like anything else tho, it's all about the encoding

i've seen (and done) divx rips that looked almost as good as the original media, but i've also seen some (and done, jeje) some divx rips that looked like webcam porn

hrm, i'm not sure about the 480x480 lmitation

I'll have to check ino it I guess

it'd be fine for now, but I kinda don't want to have to redo my entire collection in 2-3 years =\
