Xbox 360's Second Wave of ownage

Post by DESX »

Big game titles coming out for xbox 360 between now and spring.

- Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion

- Top Spin 2

- Full Auto

- Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

- Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell double Agent

- Final Fantasy XI

- Burnout Revenge

- The Outfit

- Fight Night Round 3

- The Outfit

All these games are getting very high reviews and rating, Xbox 360 is surely making a more massive push to gain the global gaming market lead. They arent doing to shabby either. Yes the japan sales have been slow with about 62,000 units out of the 150,000 shipped but sales have been incredible here in the U.S. even the ones sold on Ebay.

Ebay reported

> Sucess rate of Xbox 360 sales where 78 percent

> A 360 sold every 13 seconds

> All 360 units sold combined = $23 million

> Xbox 360 units averaged 19 bids each

Compared to the last gen xbox their was only 200,000 sold in november and this month their year in novemeber alone their where 320,000 sold and the demands for more vastly outnumbered that.

It is estimated that every person that owned a console averaged a sale of about 4 games for it. 1.27 million games have already been sold.

I think it is pretty safe to say that this year Xbox 360 will easily contend with the PS3 rather then the last gen xbox getting owned by sony. I do like sony but I just think that from what I know now about the ps3 and comparing it the 360 the 360 will remain my favorite. I will buy a ps3 but that is still a ways away.

Anyway everyone knows a PS3 is only good for bbq's.

cept the PS3 is going to use Blu Ray and cost 500 bucks.

That might discourage a lot of cheap fucks. Not to mention the XBox 360 got a major jump on Sony.

Notice both the losers are supported by Microsoft.

Worldwide, I expect PS3 to outsell 360 10 to 1.

You must have mis-interpreted what I meant.

PS2 owned microsoft on the first xbox because they had a huge leap ahead of the xbox. But this time it's the other way around. I suspect xbox 360 will beat sony this time around actually. I dont know why people keep telling me that ps2 OWNED the xbox.... Yes it did but like I just said, it got a huge head start and their wasnt an xbox .5 or something that came out when the ps1 came out. As you can see by the numbers the last-gen xbox sold very few because very few people knew about it. But xbox 360 has been very marketed and people already know about the past xbox and how it wasted ps2 in pretty much every deparment, hardware and software wise.

Point is sony and microsoft have really only faced off, with the ps2 and the xbox and sony already had a lot of notoriety & huge start, this time it's the other way around so it can easily go both ways npz.

Oh and yes Microsoft did fuck up with asherons call but im pretty sure we all know how sony fucked up EQ.

From Reuters:

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. has sold 600,000 of its new Xbox 360 video game consoles in the United States since its November launch, an analyst for market researcher NPD Group said on Friday.

The Xbox 360 debuted to much fanfare on November 22 in North America. Since then it has been in short supply. Analysts, video game publishers and retailers have said shipments during the key holiday season fell short of expectations.

Microsoft said in a statement that its challenge has been to meet consumer demand for the Xbox 360. The company, which did not comment on the NPD numbers, said its manufacturing facilities are running at full capacity and that a third manufacturer will come online next month.

Microsoft last week confirmed its target of selling between 4.5 million and 5.5 million Xbox 360 consoles during the current business year, which ends June 30, 2006. It said in its statement on Friday that it will provide information on its Xbox 360 business during its quarterly financial report later this month.

Sony Corp. , the world's biggest video game console maker, and Nintendo Co. Ltd are preparing to ship their next-generation machines in 2006.

The NPD Group measures nearly two-thirds of retail sales in the United States and makes projections for the remainder of the year.

More console systems and games stuff. From Reuters:

LOS ANGELES, Jan 13 (Reuters) - U.S. retail sales of video game consoles, hand-held devices, games and accessories were up 6 percent to $10.5 billion in 2005, market researchers NPD Group said on Friday.

NPD attributed the year-on-year growth to the growing popularity of newer portable gaming devices such as Sony Corp.'s PlayStation Portable and Nintendo Co. Ltd's Nintendo DS, which helped mask declines in the industry's much larger console business.

Console dollar sales were down 3 percent in 2005, while console game dollar sales dropped 12 percent.

Combined console and portable game sales fell from $6.2 billion in 2004 to $6.1 billion in 2005, when $1.4 billion came from portable title sales, said NPD, which measures roughly two-thirds of retail sales in the United States and makes projections for the remainder of the year.

The NPD results issued on Friday do not include sales of games for personal computers.

The 2005 result beat a previous high of $10.3 billion in 2002. But an analyst said it does not reflect the volatility spawned by the industry's move to new console technology, which is dampening sales as consumers wait and save for next-generation machines and games.

Combined unit sales of Sony's PlayStation 2, Microsoft Corp.'s original Xbox and Nintendo's GameCube current-generation consoles fell more than 19 percent to 33.5 million in 2005, Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter told Reuters.

He added that total console and hand-held game unit sales were 190.3 million in the United States in 2005, down 6.3 percent.

"You need people to buy more stuff. This is a bad downturn," Pachter said.

DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN

Supplies of Microsoft's new Xbox 360 console, released Nov. 22 in North America, have fallen short of expectations and are hard to find in stores. Game publishers have said the shortage contributed to weaker-than-expected sales during the key holiday season when they traditionally reap about half of their annual revenue.

Competing next-generation units from Sony and Nintendo are due later this year.

The video game industry weathered hard times when Sony, the world's biggest video game console maker, released new machines in 1995 and 2000. Some experts had suggested that this console transition would be different -- but history now appears to be repeating itself.

"This happens every time there is a console transition," UBS Investment Research analyst Michael Wallace said. "The only thing you can count on is that the transition will likely be harder than anyone expects it to be."

And analysts are saying the worst is yet to come.

Wallace said this year's wild card is video game software pricing. He sees current-generation console game prices falling 20 percent to 25 percent and added that demand could sag.

"I think there is another shoe to drop here," said Wallace, who added that while 2006 could be tougher than expected, it would likely mark a bottom for the current console transition.

The PS2 jabowned everything else for 2 reasons

1) reverse compatibility with the massive software (and hardware) library of the PS1

2) insane volume of good games

Both of the controllers sort of look like croissants but the handles on the ps3 controller are ridiculous.

You must be talking about the old xbox controller cause the xbox 360 cordless controller fits perfectly. Way better then the old one though I will admit. The other one was a fucking mammoth.
