here's a quick run down:
I recently swapped out an old noisy 3com 12 port switch, for a fanless 16 port dlink switch
no big deal right?
Now all of a sudden, multicast tv packets are bombarding my network
They're clearly from the tv, but wtf would the switch rebroadcast them?
I've got 2 dsl modems, 1 for highspeed, 1 for tv (isp doesn't have enough bandwidth on 1 line to do it all, so they provision 2 lines)
anyways, both modems hit the same switch, but since they deal with 2 diff't subnets (192.168.x.x, and 10.34.x.x) they should be able to coexist, no?
or have I made some mistake, and need a managed switch to segregate the traffic into 2 different vlans
Switching isn't working (or maybe I'm mistaken)

Not sure... but you should be able to program the switch to NOT forward any packets from a specific subnet. So try actually blocking the TV's subnet at the switch. See if that helps.

did a bit of reading, and switches turn stupid when they have to deal with multicast
a managed switch would solve the problem via vlans, but the switch I have isn't managed
so either I need a small 4 port switch to move the tv shitznat to, or I can cascade the wireless router, and block the multicast at its WAN port
it kind of sucks a bit topology wise, and for sharing, but we'll see
