Ram help

Post by Ouchyfish »

This is just a request but if anyone's bored enough feel free to help. I need to buy a gig of RAM for my wife's PC. She has an HP Pavilion a1120n.

I tried shopping for it and I come up with about 1000 different ones and have no clue WTF one works for this system. I found one on Kingston for like 120, but have heard from folks that they found 1 gig for 50 bucks.

Any help?

Thanks

I don't generally trust "generic" memory or people i've not heard of, I'd go with at least the samsung or the kingston, but it's your call :)

Depends on what time of ram you are getting too. Regular, dual channel, SDRAM, etc. all of those factors have influence on price.

OK I hope I got the right thing.

On the Kingston site, when i listed my PC, I got this as the only 1Gig choice:

KTH-XW4200/1G - Part Detail
Mfgr's System P/N's: PR663A (HP/Compaq)

But this is what I bought:

Kingston KVR400D2N3/1G 1GB 400MHz DDR2 PC2-3200 DIMM Memory Upgrade

So...will it work?

Also, I have never had any luck putting in non-matching ram into a system-any possible way that i could get away with leaving one of the 256's in when I put the 1 gig chip in? *crosses fingers*

That was the right one to get (400mhz, 3200 pc2)

As far as leaving one in, you would have to figure out what the current one is. If its less then a 400 mhz pc2 3200 I would take it out as it will slow down your new one.
