superbowl, 7-3 halftime

Post by Tikker »

really odd game so far

hassleback looks good, but no one else really does

steelers offense looks really shakey

it's not really anything the seahawks are doing, they just don't look good

and what the heck was up with seattle at the end of the half?
a run?

The secondary of the 'hawks are doing an amazing job. The coverage of the Pitt WRs has been damn good.

Pitt is giving up the dink and dunk but has been good about protecting the long ball. Seattle is not going across the middle at all.

It's been a really good game, so far.

i think its unna blow up on one side or the other this half - i hate seattle and their fucking bandwagon fans but I think they are close to blowing it open - the only thing that makes me question it was that drive at the end of the half

i didnt see the interference on the recalled TD by the hawks, and the dive by Roethlisberger looked like it was outside the in zone line. :dunno:

I dunno. I keep expecting Hasselback to make the boneheaded throw and Polamalu to return it for 7.

I expect some good Lebeau adjustments to counter the outs that Seattle have lived on. If they don't want to throw crossing pattern, then I'm sure Pitt will adjust more.

Great blocking by Seattle's line.

On a side note, I hate the Stones.

It's actually a boring game in all honesty. Listening to that idiot Madden spew obvious comment and obvious comment is more entertaining than the game itself.

Surprisingly, Seattle's has been dominating the game. Pitt's two big plays (the Parker run, and 40-yard pass) are the only bright spots in almost 3 quarters of play.

Seattle wasn't able to capitalize on a tremendous TOP advantage in the first half. That might come back to haunt them.

Pittsburgh played good enough to win ... if they had played like this the previous three games, they wouldn't have been in the Super Bowl.

They came out of the NFC -- they played 10 games vs NFC opponents 6-10 or worse.

That doesn't prepare you well for the big stage, against real competition (AFC).

Having said that, Seattle kept driving up and down the field but just choked come crunch time in the red zone. Roethlisberger had a really shitty game(9/21 passing, 2 INT's), the only running game Pittsburgh had was the 76 yard Parker burst really.

In essence Pittsburgh won the SB with 3 plays: Roethlisburger 40-yard cross-the-field to the goalline pass, Parker run, Randel El reverse TD pass. They didn't do much at all except for those 3 plays offensively the entire game.

I think the difference was Pittsburgh was more battle-tested and knew how to take advantage when the opportunity arose; something that cost Seattle the game.

It looked like to me that almost all of Roethlisberger passes were short.

That's the sign of a good D. You bend but do not break. You make plays.

Pitt played a mediocre game, but it was enough to win against an NFC opponent.

Its hard to be disappointed in the Seahawks, they won the game in every aspect.

Every big momentum changing play they had in the red zone was called back on a penalty including that ridiculous offensive pass interference on the first TD.

Chalk up the 2 missed field goals and Jerramy Stevens almost single handedly losing the game dropping what, 4-5 passes of 20 yards or more. Way to talk trash then lay an egg.

This was my first time watching an entire Superbowl game and I had alot of fun now that I kinda understand what's going on.

Some comments from a football newb: Ward rocks, that play where Pittsburg passed off the ball three times before the touchdown was amazing, Hasselbeck hesitates way too long to throw the ball, and I can't wait to follow the teams into next year now.

agreed on both points, i think these two calls gave pittsburgh the long-term momentum they needed to roll over the 'hawks. neither team looked really good imho, but those two calls were simply huge.

Good superbowl. Longest running play in SB history. Longest interception return in SB history. Sloppy offenses though.

Seattle killed themselves with penalties. They should have had at least another 10 points. Pretty sad.

Good commercials this year too. The streaking lamb, and the one where the guy beams his buddy in the face with his phone were hysterical.

Rolling Stones were decent too, too bad they tacked on 3 minutes to the end of every song.

I give it a 6!

I wanted to start off by giving props to the Steelers. Its great to see Bettis, Ward, Cowher and the rest get a ring. Cowher and Bettis really deserve the ring, for their long tenures with the team. Great organization, great coach, great player.

I however cant see why people think even after the defeat that the Seahawks would not have made the playoffs if they were in the AFC. They dominated that game from the outset, untill they got behind after the Parker touchdown (one hell of a run, and i think he broke Boulawares ankles on that move he made).

Unfortuanatly to see that the game was not decided by the Steelers and Seahawks, the officials really really outshone both teams last night. Im not taking anything away from the Steelers, but some of the calls were just horrid, stomach churning garbage.

I will start with the Darryl Jackson Touchdown, while yes there was contact made it was not a push off let alone pass interferance. That is a ticky tack foul that would not be called 99 out of 100 times. There was more contact on quite afew of the passing plays later in the game, than there was on that one. Even though they did get 3 points out of the possesion its still very deflating.

Second the Pruit Holding call on Peter Warricks 34 yard punt was horrid. The infraction was at the line of scrimmage but was not flagged till after Warrick's return. Video replay again showed a very very ticky tack foul. Again deflating Seattle.

Next the Roethsberger touchdown. When the play was over the Lineman comes running in short of the goal line with his arm raised to mark Ben short, not giving him a touchdown. Then magically his arms raise for the touchdown. BOGUS. Video evidence i believe was inconclusive either way. If the correct call was made to mark him short, and Cowher challenged i think it would not have been overturned. There certainlly wasnt undisputable evidence one way or another.

Next, on a drive late in the game there were two times in a row when Pitt's DE jumped offsides CLEARLY. One led to a sack and a punt. Multiple times in the game there NT was lined up in the neutral zone. While the Neutral zone infraction imho would be pretty ticky tac, it should have been called to keep with the refs idea of calling a good game.

The next play to discuss was the PHANTOM holding call on the Jeremy Stevens catch (yes he did manage to hold onto acouple). It should have been first and goal, instead a horrid call. There was no holding, not really even close to it. At that point i think i threw something at the TV.

I could go on but im getting pissed just writing about it.

Even with all of those momentum changers, the Seahawks were still in the game. Josh Brown should have made both field goals, however he didnt execute. Wich is what the game really boiled down to. The Seahawks didnt execute when they had too.....the Steelers did. I think some of the play calling by the Seahawks was horrid, and Im terribly upset about the 2 minute drills that ended the first half and the game. IT was UGLY U....G....L....Y UGLY. Again not executing when they should have.

Again i dont want to take anything away from Pittsburg, but unfortuanatly I think that game should have been closer. I really would have liked to see what the game would have been like without those horrid calls.

I really think that the Seahawks showed alot of people that even though they played in a Weak NFC, that the team is for real, and not an overated Canadian football league team as some ESPN "anaylists" called them. They dominated the first half and moved the ball exceptionally well against the Steelers D. Unfortuanatly there was always a yellow flag on the ground when they did something big..........

the push off call was a bit chintzy

it technically was a push off, and technically should have been called, but that play happens 100 times a game and is never called

the hold on the PR, the dude actuallyheld at the LoS as well as downfield

i don't htink that play really made much diff either way tho

the holding on the stevens catch, Depending on the angle you saw it from it looked like the dude got tackled coming around the corner

I thought it was a hold till I saw it from the one angle

/shrug

you're always going to get questionable calls when humans are involved

They shouldn't, however, universally go against one team. I had no rooting interest in the game, but man was the officiating terrible, and lopsided to boot. The Locklear "holding" call, the Hasslebeck personal foul, and the complete lack of any replay on Jackson's brush with the pylon were some of the more egregious examples.

Your post here is utter bullshit. I don't like Pitt, but the officiating in this game was the BEST it had been in the post season. Every call had good reasoning behind it, even if it wasn't accurate. There were no uber boneheaded calls like there were in many of the other playoff games.

If you understood football, you'd understand the Hasselback personal foul. You can't take a blocker out at the knees and another player. All games have questionable calls, but the ones made in this game from the refs vantage were good. Jackson wasn't anywhere near inbounds which likewise didn't warrant a replay.

Seattle lost the game on the field. Your posts here make you appear to be bitter. If that's not the case, I suggest you show less bias than CNN doing a Bush speech review.

I've got to agree, me and a couple of the guys both commented during the game last night that we were suprised with how well a job the officials were actually doing.
