Knicks traded for Rose
New York Knicks traded Antonio Davis for Jalen Rose, 1st round pick, and cash from Toronto Raptors.
I'm not much into basketball that much, I get most of my info from Zanchief but to me that sounds like an awful trade for the raptors.
They aren't going anywhere this year and there getting rid of a 1rd draft pick??
Is Jalen Rose's salary that high compared to Antonio Davis?

i like this move for the raptors as it'll open up some cap space (ok the 1st round pick kinda sucks but hey), its not as if the raps were contending for a playoff spot anyway..so moving rose up for a shot at maybe nene or peja in the future was sweet
edit: though zan's analysis of this would be interesting

The loss of the pick is going to hurt, but the Raptors do have some good young talent in place already, and getting Rose's killer contract off the books is huge. I'm guessing the Raps would rather try and bring in some veterans via free agency than acquire more youngsters via the draft.
This is a terrific move for the Knicks though. Thomas has actually drafted quite well, and with Rose on the payroll, his ability to make asinine free agency decisions should be curtailed.

Another mitigating factor: the pick was Denver's, which makes it less valuable than if it was Toronto's.
they probably want to keep mike james and sign a big name, but i can't see the blazers letting pryzbilla leave. They're trying to trade ratliff (rumors are to the knicks for hardaway's expiring contract) to make room so they can keep him. If they sign peja that wouldnt be too bad but he's probably going to chicago (both places he wants to be but chicago is a winning team).
I don't think the trade can be evaluated now, it all depends on if they can spend their cap money wisely and get something or if they'll be like the hawks and find themselves unable to find a free agent willing to come play for them.
I think when you sign guys like darrick martin, you still need talent, young or not

Chicago hasn't been winning more games then us lately, are our best player as twice the player of theres(Heinrich?)

PG Rotation of James/Calderon/Ukic. Do we draft ANOTHER PG in the draft this year?
Were like 2 deep with young players at every position. We don't need more young players to develop. We need solid contributers.
chicago is underachieving, toronto is doing about as well as anybody thought they would. Theyre leading the east in scoring. Chicago has better draft picks, more young talent, and a lot of cap space too. The raptors also have a rep for being an unstable franchise.
James could very well be gone, ukic is riding the pine in europe, and calderone hasn't played a whole lot of mins yet. Graham could end up being a bust, or a good bench player.
The raptors do look good but they're taking a risk, if they end up getting frozen out of the free agent market they will have wasted a first round draft pick.
course if they end up trading antonio davis to the mavs for van horn and a draft pick or something along those lines that could change. I think the trade is really going to be judged on what else they can do, it's not really something to look at on it's own
