Isn't hardwood harder to heat and/or noisier? (or do you use huge rugs, etc?)

the kitchen is linoleum tho, and we'll be replacing it likely this coming winter

I'm thinking a nice thick purple shag carpet will go nicely in the kitchen
carpet in kitchen will turn to stained shit in a year if you use kitchen to cook and not just heat up microwave dinners

Remember Ganzo, different areas in the country charge differently because of local competition, your price could be grossly different than that somewhere else. For instance, I paid $15.50 a sq ft for my floor which was competitive to the other retailers in my area.

Now, for the info I said I would get you...
It was called Mohawk Whitman Cherry Natural. That is all I have for info on it.

Well i've talked to my Mohawk Rep, and from what i found out, your wood is solid so should be able to refinish with no problem, don't know why someone would say they couldn't do it. Whitman Cherry is listed as 3/4" solid wood. Now as far as pets go no Mohawk wood is warrantied against pet scraches, so unless your sales person put that in writing on your receipt, you got taken by bad salesman. However I would still go with independant evaluators to check into how bad your floor is and see if you have a case for small claims court. If you win you get your money back, or replacement, if not you lose $35 dollars. Without seeing your floor i can't tell what kind of dammage you have, and what caused it.

As far as prices go, i charge $7.50 sq.ft for this wood and $4.00 sq.ft. for installation so prices in your area are outrageous. Maybe i need to open another store in your town.

Whitman Cherry is a 1/2" floor with only 3/16 of finish material on top. I got the best wood floor company in Omaha to come out and quote a refinishing price for me, and they said no way they would consider trying it. Don't think about opening a store here, your employees would make you want to shoot yourself in the face daily. People in the midwest are getting to be all but useless these days.

Rule #1 when doing ANY type of work around your home.

USE A CREDIT CARD

Arent you an HVAC contractor? You should know why this is important.

Watch how fast people fix fuck ups when a HUGE chargeback wipes out thier checking account.

Now, I admit im not an EXPERT on flooring, but I do have a significant amount of remodeling experience. 15.50 a sq ft sounds really high.

So, you said your floor salesman told you your floor could be refinished up to 3 times, right?

Ganzo, the NT Floor expert tells you the rep from the company who makes the floor you ordered should be a solid hardwood.

Sounds to me like either the company you bought your flooring from either sent out the wrong material for the job, or someone made the decision to fuck you out of the material you ordered, thinking you wouldnt know the difference.

If what they installed for you was a 1/2" engineered wood, with 3/16 layer of cherry, i'll talk to my rep and ask what it could be, but as my rep said it seposed to be 3/4" solid. Only posibility i see, is this was private label name for this store, and it is actualy called difrently by Mohawk. Is it 7-1/16" wide plank that locks with no glue and nails like laminate, or 3" wide planks that were glued or stapled together?

I would also call 1-800-2MOHAWK and talk to a CS Rep about what the store did and what they are willing to do to help you.

I must say though, installing that laminate is fairly entertaining the first few times. Interlocking puzzle pieces almost...and the expensive shit looks nice when it's finished, you'd swear it were hardwood at first look.

It was 3" wide engineered wood that interlocks with tongue and groove then gets stapled together. Looks neat as shit when installed correctly and not scratched to shit, but looks like hell atm.

Alright, so it has to be private label name for: Mohawk American Craftsman Montebello Cherry, cause it's only 3" engineered Cherry they list, made with 5-ply and CrystalShield™ Aluminum-Oxide finish. This floor could potentialy be refinished, but it is risky, and most companies would not try.

This is from Mohawks warranty:
Accidents, Abuse or Abnormal Wear -- This warranty does not cover damage resulting from accidents or abuses that stain or scratch the finish, diminished gloss, or indent the surface of the wood. It also does not cover damage caused by heavy or concentrated foot traffic, damage by pets claws (nails), and failure to protect the floor from sand, gravel and other abrasives by use of walk off mats.

I'm sorry to say but your salesman basicaly realy wanted comission, so he told you what you wanted to hear, instead of truth, and unless you have anything he promissed in writing, you will have hard time winning your case. I will talk to some of my friends in business, and see if they have some ideas.
