Netflix sucking huge balls lately

Postby Ouchyfish » Sat Feb 11, 2006 1:08 am

WTF? I used to be able to send the movies in on Monday, they would receive them on Tuesday and be sending me out new movies to arrive on Wednesday. Now the whole round trip takes about 6-8 fucking days!

Anyone else had this happen since January? This sucks.

It sucks ass I'm getting really pissed about it, and I'm thinking of switching to Blockbusters service for a month or two to see if it's any better. I used to get between 6-8 moives a week now I'm down to 3 a week if I'm lucky. Hell I'd be even willing to pay 1 dollar more a month to make up for the postage increase. If they stopped the throtling and started treating heavy users like the good customers they are.

This is their new Terms of Service, basically saying Hey we hope you don't rent to many movies bitches. I also wonder if this applies for people on the higher priced plans from the 4 to 8 movies out at a time. If not I may just jump up plans.

Allocation, Delivery and Return of Rented DVDs

We reserve the right to allocate and ship DVDs among our subscribers in any manner that we, in our sole and absolute discretion, determine. In addition, we will, in our sole and absolute discretion, determine the quantity of DVDs we purchase for any particular title and the level of staffing and number of shipments to be processed at each distribution center. As a result, we may not always send you the top choices from your queue, and we may not ship out your next DVD on the same day that we receive one from you. At present, our goal is to ship you the DVDs listed highest in your queue. Also, we currently try to ship you DVDs from the distribution center closest to you so that you get movies quickly. Often, on the same day that we receive a DVD from you, we will ship the next available DVD from your queue. In certain instances, your next available DVD will not ship until at least one business day following our receipt of your returned movie. This can occur, for example, when your top choices are not available to you from your closest distribution center or the number of shipments to be processed by the distribution center on that day has been exceeded. When this happens, your DVD will likely ship on the next business day and may come from an alternate distribution center.

In determining priority for shipping and inventory allocation, we give priority to those members who receive the fewest DVDs through our service. As a result, those subscribers who receive the most movies may experience that (i) the shipment of their next available DVD occurs at least one business day following return of their previously viewed movie, (ii) delivery takes longer, as the shipments may not be processed from their local distribution center and (iii) they receive movies lower in their queue more often than our other subscribers. Other factors that may affect delivery times, include, but are not limited to, (i) the distance between the distribution center from which your DVD was shipped and your delivery address, (ii) the timing of your placement or adjustment of movies in your queue and (iii) circumstances impacting delivery by the U.S. Postal Service.

We do not process returns or deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Holidays. We make no guaranty as to the shipping and delivery of DVDs and may, in our sole and absolute discretion, change our business practice regarding allocation, delivery and shipping, without notice. We may from time to time revise these Terms of Use but we will not necessarily provide you notice of the revisions. It is up to you to review the Terms of Use frequently to determine if there have been changes.

We will send you an e-mail letting you know when we have received a returned movie, and we will also send you another e-mail letting you know when we have shipped your next DVD, including the anticipated time of delivery.

Eldred remember you jump plans and follow them up pretty soon the cheese dicks will just change the throttling for the higher paid plans. this in indicitive of how most of the companies respond nowaday. best thing to do is let you pocket book do the talking and go somewhere else. My suggestion is if and when you cancel call them up talk to a live human and tell them why. also ask for thier supervisor and let him have it. that way the word gets out.

I bailed on netflix a while back but we didn't watch more than 3 - 5 movies a week. We switched over to blockbuster and I get the same service. We send the movies back and they are there next day and shipped out next day. It just depends on where the nearest blockbuster is at etc. ;)

Initially, we were receiving our Netflix movies from Columbia, SC which is about two hours away from us, and we regularly got them quickly, and sent them back within a reasonable amount of time-in fact we got slower with it when we got busy and didn't have time to watch them. (usually 2-3 days) So, they aren't taking their time sending us ours because we are watching a movie a day-like they did that guy.

Now, the movies don't make it in the time they promise, and they are being shipped from other states...which is curious because we were receiving them on time when they were shipped from within the state.

I figured, they ship it from wherever the closest warehouse is that has your selection.

whatever the reason, it sucks that it's no longer beneficial to use them. good things never last =(

Library here gets the new releases the same day as every other video store

they also have to bring in any movie/book that at least 4 (or is it 8? no matter) people request

so it's generally np to get absolutely anything

you do sometimes have to wait in line to get the newer movies, but for free, it's not hard

New releases come to our library regularly. You just have to be there when the library opens or you won't be able to borrow them.

wow, that's really interesting. The only movies that were at any library I've been to were like books on vhs (ie the 1970s horrid acting version of julius caesar, etc.)

WTF? If I advertise that you can rent as many as you like, 5 at a time and then space them out so you get fucked in the end, I would expect people to be a little pissed as well. Especially if I wasn't up front about it.

Their advertising/marketing leads you to believe that you can rent as many as you like, as long as you keep them coming back.

Your opinion seems to be motivated by that same classic urge to play the asshole "tough net guy with a chip on his shoulder" part and not by an ounce of logic.

Also how am I stealing? I watch them and send them back. (And no I do not rip copies of them) Even if I was, you can't assume that of every single Netflix customer just to fuck them over on a marketing campaign that never mentions how limited their service really is.

Come visit our socialist paradise sometime!

It's pretty nice, reserve everything online, then they call when it's ready
the main library is just 1 block from my downtown office, so a 5 minute trip at lunch usually nets me 5-10 dvd's a month

Just got notification of next batch. Notice the request date, vs today's date

some are 2 days, some are a week or 2, but by constantly keeping 20ish movies on the request list, I always get 5-10 a week, every week
