Knicks owner sounds like Bush - "Stay the Course"

Postby Arlos » Thu Mar 02, 2006 12:13 pm

Despite the worst record in the NBA, New York Knicks owner James Dolan said Wednesday that he's not firing anyone.

"I can't say it any plainer than I've already said it," Dolan told New York-area newspapers. "I'm not making a change, guys. We're going to continue on with the strategy. I believe in the plan. I believe in the strategy. I believe in the guys who are executing it. I fully expect you to kill me in the papers tomorrow with this, but I'm going to stick with it. I'm going to stick with it until we stop making progress. I think the course is to stay the course, not knee-jerk.

"Maybe some people think I'm brain-dead because of that, but time will tell," Dolan added. "I understand people will be unhappy when you're going through this process."

Despite general manager Isiah Thomas being on the job for 2½ years, Dolan feels this season is year 1 of a three-to-four-year plan.

"You're characterizing [this season] as making a big mistake. It's not a mistake. It's an underestimation what it would take to start off this strategy. So we're 15-41 now," Dolan told the New York Post before Wednesday night's loss. "You have to look at how you're doing on your 3-4 year plan. It's still early. I know it's hard to take when it's 15-41, but the mistake would be to say the strategy is wrong. The strategy is right. It's just more painful to execute than we thought. It is harsh. There is no doubt. I think [the fans] are already upset."

The Knicks are guaranteed a losing season and have only qualified for the playoffs once since 2001.

Dolan sounds as immune to reality as Bush too, if he thinks the Knicks plan is going spiffily. ;)

at this point, thats the best thing they can do, after firing isiah of course. They're wasting a shit ton of money but they can afford it so really who cares. The main problem is the fact that brown can't seem to stick with a specific line up, and isiah can't stop trading. The best thing they could have done was stick with their young players, give them play time and see if any could become stars. Let richardson, crawford, taylor, rose x2 ride the bench. They need to do two things, give their young players play time, and also try and come up with some resonable semblance of team chemistry, which won't ever happen if brown keeps changing lineups, players can't reach any kind of a comfort level. The jalen rose deal was a good one because all they did was take a player who was expiring this year, turn him into a player expiring next year and get a free pick out of it, they pretty much took their asset and extended the life on it. The main problem is play time, rose shows up in new york and gets a bunch of playtime, taking it away from other players who could still improve.

As a Knicks fan, it sucks. Dolan wants to be be like that other owner (Steinbrenner) in NYC. The difference between the two is that Steinbrenner has competent people working for him. The person who needs to go is Dolan, before Isiah and/or Brown. Brown likes to play half-court, good defense, etc. The current Knicks roster is not built for that, they are built for running. The Knicks are being run very Enronish. Sad day for Knicks fan, but I am sticking with em! :)
