Here's a new one - a burglar has escaped a prison sentence, because he suffers from a permanent erection.

Maurice Baumann, who is 32 years of age, was sentenced to one year in jail for burgling homes in the town of Bielefeld in Germany.

But he seems to have escaped the prison time after entering hospital as an "emergency case" for his "condition". Even after a week of treatment, doctors at the hospital admitted they were only able to get his manhood down to "half-mast".

Speaking about the problem, Baumann told a court in Bielefeld: "I woke up one morning with a hard-on. I didn't think anything of it - that happens to men a lot. But mine never went down".
