Good, he should be banned. It's their rules and they always said it's against policy to use macros like that.

99.9% of the kids who use these just go afk in Alterac Valley and leech honor so if it hurts the .1% of the players who might use it legitimately who cares. This is one of the easiest MMO's out there for casual play and if you need to CHEAT to level up weapon skills then you should be banned.

They banned him for setting up his keyboard to do menial tasks, so he wouldn't have to sit there.

I don't understand how he could not think this was illegal.

menial is a debateable word. Where do you draw the line. Any kind of botting like that is illegal.

i don't understand..

switch weapon, cast hex, cast renew = 3 buttons + minimal mouse movement

macro = 1 button

...if you're going to be sitting there anyway, what's so difficult about pushing three buttons that would necessitate binding them all to one single button? that's like building a machine that opens your beer when you can damn well open the beer just fine by yourself

Because with programmable keyboards you don't actually have to press the macro button. The keyboards have a set in feature that auto presses the key over and over again.

How did they detect that the programmable keyboard was doing it. Was it just because they noticed that he was doing the exact same things with the exact same timing for an extended period of time?

most likely. And they don't do anything unless you get petitioned by someone else. In other words it was obvious to other players that this guy was botting.

He kept rambling on about Linux etc etc,how he is an engineer etc etc and yet he basically ignored the fact that the problem wasn't with any of that. The problem was his keyboard and using it to skill up without actually having to be present.Glad he got banned. Hope he cries some more

Just get a good keystroker and hotkey program and just leave it on all night .. dont need to go through all that trouble. :dunno:
