National debt limit increased

Postby Phlegm » Thu Mar 16, 2006 12:25 pm

The Senate voted today to increase the limit of the national debt to nearly 9 trillion dollars. The increase allows the government to pay for the war in Iraq and finance Medicare and other big federal programs without raising taxes.

That represents about $30,000 for every man, woman and child in the United States.

I wonder what the ROI on the war with Iraq will be in oil profits?

The government fell for those cross country visas. Sure, you get a trillion dollar limit but they put 999 billion on there in membership fees.

Sadly, I pay that just about every year in overall taxes.

The problem is the DNC has mirrored the GOP in trying to be moderate, and to retaliate the GOP has mirrored the DNC in trying to make everyone happy by spending. I really despise our two party system. It has morphed into a one party system separated by Abortion, Unions, Business, and little else.

In addition, special interests like the AARP are allowed to milk billions out of non retirees in benefits for people with 7 figures in the bank. Congress continues to spend ridiculously on pork and other things.

When the boomers retire, it'll only get worse, and the days of civil politics are over. Bloodsport politics and spending and the taxpayer losing are upon us.

No offence, bud, but if you are paying 30k in fucking taxes, there isn't anything "sad" about it. "Sadly", my fucking ass...sounds like you are rollin in it. I'd be happy if I were you that I have become successful enough to afford 30k in taxes.

30k=15% of what number, right? hehe I'm sure I'm wrong there..you couldn't be THAT rich...and if you are, hook a nogger up.

I said overall taxes. You aren't adding in FICA, Sales tax, gas tax, state and city taxes, property tax and every other tax we are hit with. Trust me, you aren't spending 15% in taxes. Not even close.

Yes, I make good money and I feel fortunate about it. However, I think individuals are better suited to spend their own money, versus the Fed spending it for us.

Federal government is a bloated amorphous beast that does many things it should not and needs to be paired down to a fraction of what it currently spends.

Aren't we an asset of China now?

I only hate taxes because of how much waste our government has. I got my managment bonus check, a fair "lump sum" check, only to find roughly 40% got sucked out by the tax man.

I would have no problem with that if I new the money was going to be used wisely.

I agree with Lyion, if you think we're fucked now, just wait till mom-an-pop retire, you've got no idea of the ass reaming we'll be getting then (this if for the 30 somethings that post btw).

If you made 50k a year.... Then added up ALL the taxes you pay from the tax on gasoline, to renewing your tabs on your car to Federal income tax it would be about 50 percent.

If you think you are only paying 15 percent you are very wrong.

Pfft that's easy Tik, first you pass a major tax cut, then you invade not one but two sovereign nations. Then you decimate the infrastructure of said nations, then you pledge to rebuild them with the help of US companies (Haliburton) and you shell out waaaay too much money to these nice folks who in turn take it and don't do squat but need more money with every funding bill.

Personally I'm not suprised at all. What concerns me is just how much we Americans take all this in stride. The sky isn't falling, yet. It's only money, we'll make more~

Well thats only a few billion, but yeah the bean counters ring it up. Let's don't forget about what we spend on entiltlments. SSI SSA Medicaid, Medicare, and lets not forget that will incrase exponentialy in the next 18 years.

Stop with the fair tax shananigans. That would just make shit cost more and the lower middle class on down would still suffer. The rich should pay way more intaxes cuz it hurts them less ( yea i know they worked hard for it). Cops firemen schools wars with the islamic world and a war on americans ( see patriot act and war on drugs) all cost money and someones gotta pay the bill. That being said everyons taxes should indeed be lower and we should still see more good for our tax dollar. They really need to get a handle on what they are spending these millions and billions are being spent on. Also i dont think it would hurt if they came up with a few new ways to make money. taxed prostition and taxed marijuana perhaps.
