Shadowbane is free
Looks like Shadowbane may be going kind of the same way AO is going.Seeing as there is no monthly fee and it's easy to find a full DL for free I am DL'ing now and gonna check out a variety of race/class combos. Never played an open PvP game so if anyone has played this before and has input feel free
Check out the link if ya want to.

Ya, SB wont be anywhere near a main game for me. More of a diversion. As for catches I really dont know. They just said they would release more info later. There are expansions but those are all available for free and can be played is my understanding. All class/race combos are availabe unlike the free version of AO. Least thats what I have heard. I haven't been able to setup a subscription due to getting an error message.
If I get in I'll try and verify/shoot down this info

It's the full version including expansions. Can be any race/class combo. Gone most of the day/evening today for my wifes B-Day but wil likely make a real toon later tonight/tomorrow. Movement is PnC
So used to WASD. And gonna take awhile to get used to the UI. At least you start out on a non PvP isle so as not to get pwned soon as you login
i'm already lvl 20, and i'm afk while a friendly guild i joined PL's me, and showers me with money and gear.
i dunno what it is, but this game is like mr rogers neighborhood in terms of the people, while EQ/WoW is like downtown Fallujah

I was talking online with a few folks that had been playing for awhile. From what I gather most folks are going to be very helpful of newbies. Even opposing high levels steer clear of them (mostly) I'm told.
Reason?
They want more folks to stay and play. If you get constantly griefed by people then you will quit. The playerbase is very small compared to most MMO's. I have been fiddling around with different class/race combos and will settle on a specific one today. Should be ready to leave the "safe" area later today and join in the real fun. Hopefully I find a guild like yours

i loved shadowbane, i played it from the get go.. even made the first bladeweavin elf druid and fucked people up for awhile til they figured it out
its easy as shit to level, can get to 50 in a few days of non-serious play. joining a guild, and building up a city from scratch its quite rewarding. it really makes you angry at some other players when youre raided, and the whole place is destroyed.
but since it was new, there were about a billion graphic bug/lag issues, some really stupid class/race/skill issues etc... lost its fun fast. i'd consider playing it again if i hadnt just picked up wow.

good website on shadowbane. helpful if you're trying it out and in as much culture shock as me
the game reminds me of Ultima Online a lot, except if you could burn and pillage peoples homes. i dunno if i can recommend Vindication server, found out it's "Loreplay". similar to Firiona Vie server in EQ, roleplay with some tweaked rules. but i'm lvl 65 and it's too fun to reroll elsewhere

I'm having trouble loading the game after a successful install.
After patching, I hit "Play" and get an error "Software OpenGL Context", to which I hit "OK"
then I get a Fatal Application Exit with the description:
sb.exe has encountered an error and cannot continue! (code=ACCESS VIOLATION addr=77C47C7E).
Anyone heard of this?
Menlaan
EDIT: Nevermind, my video card is too crappy for it (GeForce4 440 Go). I need to upgrade badly...

I play on mourning, I played it when it was released for awhile and now have all my old characters back..62 assassin, 48 scout, 44 crusader, 34 fessor, ect ect. Problem is, I don't remember how to play. but if anyone wants to do something or needs some pl'ing, post here with your name if you're on mourning server ^_^
it'll be too much work for me to farm up some chars on that server, while doing the same on Vindication. if anyone wants to make a char there, the birdman guild i'm in has a bunch of cities and pvp's a lot.
