Oblivion - Who is buying it at release
Moderator: Dictators in Training
Lovin it so far, didnt play too long. The character creation is insanely detailed. Its so complex I was having trouble making a guy that didnt look like a retard or a neanderthal
Made my own class. Magic based, heavy armor, blade, block, destruction, alteration, illusion, restoration. Two main stats are endurance and willpower.

I've only played about 3 hours maybe, just got level 2 and have gone through 3 mini-dungeons...really no point to them but they're along the way to where I'm going so I go there anyways. I'm starting to get the same feeling with Morrowind though, the fights are boring, i may have to change to a spellcaster.

Make a custom class based around the skills you find yourself using most.
The fights for me have been fun, and the graphics are super.

Nvidia just released new drivers supposedly to optimise Oblivion http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/84.25/84.25_forceware_winxp2k_english.exe

I have found 2 ways to switch between 1st and 3rd person. First way is to hit the 'R' key. Second way is to click the scroller on a scroll mouse, if you have one.

Tacks wrote:Yeah you can play in 3rd person if you want though I think you need to be in first to open boxes and stuff
You can open boxes in either view. It is a bit tougher in 3rd person but you just have to angle the guy to be looking at the box, chest, whatever. Once you see the name of what you are looking at, on the bottom right-side of the screen, you can hit the space bar to open it up.

Here are the classes:
"Acrobat, Agent, Assassin, Barbarian, Bard, Battlemage, Crusader, Healer, Knight, Mage, Monk, Nightblade, Pilgrim, Rogue, Scout, Sorcerer, Spellsword, Thief, Warrior, and Witchhunter. Players also have the ability to create a Custom Class (and give it a description and name), if they so choose."

Looking forward to playing myself!

3rd person is very effective not really because of all the flanking but more so in a dungeon if you are a rouge or some other class with a high sneak skill. Very effective in creating good situational awarness. + for all of you that have a major in sneak skill be sure to get the life detect skill at some point. Very usefull when your sneaking in a dark dungeon.

I played for few hour's last nite. I still didn't get my new up grade for the video card, so i at mid level for graphic. I really enjoy the game so far, it really well made.
This word is huge, with so much dungeon/cave to explore if you go in the wilderness instead of jumping directly to the place you need to go for a quest.
Third person view is very practical to climb stiff hill btw and see if you have a stalker (wolf....) while running. I have selected Nightblade, the same class that i have use when i played Arena. For me it was a good one, sneaky with open lock, blade light armor some magic and alchemy.
I selected the Lezard man race, so far i like him, maybe there better race, but this one was looking cool.
What i mostly dislike is!!! game crash randomly, can be because i zone or will happen for no reason!!! /calm hilmself so the darkside won't get the control =p
i get some graphic problem when opening map, the screen is mostly black with the description of town and such.
I didn't find how the influence system work exactly (bribe...) maybe i need to use it with only certain NPC??
The lock picking system is nice, but it get practice to swing the tool fast enouth before the thing drop down again. Lucky there a auto try button =D
So far i love the game, can't wait to have a video card powerfull enouth to see more of it =D

This doesn't surprise me. I haven't experienced these problems, yet, with this game, but I remember similar issues with Morrowind until they put out a good patch.
However, you probably should make sure your video card drivers are up to date, and stuff like that, until you get that new vid card. I've got a 6800 and even it stutters on occasion. I'm not sure if the 7900GTX is my answer or wait until the next gen after the 7000 line.
Oh well, I digress.

Yeah I hope they are using console cheats, or have yanked their difficulty slider far left.
By the way, whats up with the difficulty slider? I usually play FPS' on the hardest setting possible. But I dunno what to do with Oblivion. Any advantage to sliding it to hardest? Better loot? Probably not, probably just hard as a bitch. I read that even a little movement on the slider is a drastic difficulty difference.

I never understood people wanting a game to be harder. I mean, more substance yes, but harder? (The games where "harder" means it takes 5 bullets to kill this guy rather than 1 and 1 to kill you instead of 5 etc.) It's like walking barefoot 30 miles to work instead of wearing shoes/driving your car because you enjoy the challenge.
give me a fuckin game shark and unlimited ammo so I can blast some resident evil fuckers so I can finish this shit. I don't get off on "aw shit he killed me again-I must practice harder!"
I'm just lazy/impatient I guess.
