i can count the # of good battlefront2 space servers on one hand. so i'm going to give galaxies a shot. does anyone still play?

i want to make a jedi and get it over combat level 80 before the end of this month, when they re-spec all jedi below that. so my first ?, is it possible to hit 80 in less than a month? i can't remember WTF a combat level is, i had a master bounty hunter before JTL and just remember having to find people who mastered a skill to train you in it. and i'm pretty sure it didn't take 80 lvls to max out

i'll keep playing if i can't get the jedi high enough, depending on how the space combat is. does it over-reward having crazy attachments on your ship? so someone that had a fully decked out x-wing would have like 15k hp in EQ, compared to someone in a basic one having 1k hp?

I doubt you'll find anyone who still plays, Thon. The whole group of us left en masse due to bugs, broken classes, and immediate ad hoc game changes without warning.

I'd suggest maybe trying VN or Stratics boards and finding someone who actually still plays.

I haven't played in several months so I'm unsure of what has changed since then. So factor that into what I say.

Space combat is probably the only decent part of the game left. You can buy parts to upgrade your ship or just loot them when you blow up other ships. The better parts you have the better off you are.

You could probably get to CL80 with a Jedi...but I'm not sure how much fun you'd have. The game became pretty much unplayable for me when the introduced the NGE. Perhaps they've changed enough you'll have a better time with it.

ya i'd imagine better parts make you do more dmg, go faster, or make your shields stronger/etc.

but by how much would you say? just wondering w/o factoring in pilot skill. would upgraded shields increase the damage you can take by double, triple? or maybe a 30% increase?

edit - if i keep playing past the 10 days, i'll probably end up switching to a bounty hunter. it looks like there's actually a bounty system now

I'm afraid I didn't pay that much attention. Kahar could probably tell you if he doesn't freak at the mention of SWG. He wasn't happy with the changes.

lol, i saw they removed some classes outright. that's pretty damn cold

i'll probably spend my time in space, depending on how god awful the combat on land is. it looks like they have an actual bounty system in game now, and that it works in space.

edit - it appears that the jedi wipe was another foul april fools lie. i'll just make a bounty hunter

Rumormill has it that BioWare may have gotten or is getting the game from LucasArts. They started a MMO studio in the same town SoE has their SWG studio.

It's a nice dream anyway.

Only real experience I had with it was post-NGE, friend showed me the space combat stuff. It looked pretty cool actually.

My guess is Bioware got rights for a KOTOR MMO, which wouldn't overlap with the SOE SWG original movies license.

What people don't realize is the NGE and all the changes are from Lucasarts, since they took over the design of SWG. George wanted it to be more from the movies.

What I'd like is an MMO more like Eve, but with space combat like SWGs. I don't like Eves space combat or flight at all.

Ok my take on SWG.

Pre CU(pre combat upgrade) game was enjoyable I was able to make a unique character with multiple skill sets (Master Bounty Hunter/Master Rifleman)

CU (Combat Upgrade) game went to hell in a hand cart. they nerfed the Bountyhunter which was before CU an extremely hard class to get, limiting the amount of bounty hunters in game) and turned it into a run of the mill class. Reduce our abilities to fight jedi, and killed off our abilities to track jedi using our probebots on specific planets(Kashyaak being most prevelant)

NGE Turned the game into Jedi World. Parsed 32 claseses down to 9 'Iconic'(whatever the fuck that means) classes. reduced your ability to specialize, removed major contributors to the game for crafting mechanics(bio engineer, scout, ranger), and turned the game into a FPS style system with bugs galore.
To get into the bugs:
FPS style has a problem because the target lock is no longer in place people have problems of losing their mob they are fighting. Also with the addition of the NGE(Needs Game Enhancements) there was a problem with mob stacking where spawns would contuously spawn on top of each other till you would have about 600 level 15 pissed off luna's all looking like one mob. When some poor bastard came up on it and tried to pull one the whole group would aggro. I have done this...trust me at CL82 600 30 level mobs will still kick your ass.

Drops, weapons and cafters. With changing around the drop tables now items drop from mobs are better than the crafters can make basically removing thier usefulness form the game. With the removal of 'decay' from game now crafters have nothing to do thier one ability to help the community was nerfed at this point. People found no matter what weapon you have they basically do the same amount of damage...period. Take cl10 Scout pistol, a cl80 Lightning Cannon and fire both of them and the dps is only about 1 point difference. The weapons that cost most of us 1-10 million credits for top of the line once in a lifetime weapons were rendered inoperable or reduced down to a useless damage.

Jedi world. With the addition of Jedi and the removal of player bounties on them the Jedi have reproduced about as fast as cockroaches at a tiajuana hotel.

Server Populations. the mass exodus that was caused by the NGE has left most servers barren. Take my server Wanderhome. Before the NGE there was things to do, cities were bustling. after the NGE the only town that is worth a shit is Mos Eisly. The rest of the major cities (Coronet, Mos Espa, etc etc. are wastelands.) Some one piped server counts about a month ago. The server counts were horrific. 300 people on wanderhome on a friday night.

Entertainers. Before the CU entertainers had a job. You would come in from combat with what is called battlefatigue. You would have to relax for about 10-15 minutes every 3-4 hours to lose the BF you had acquired to your mental attribute. Of course listening to a entertainer also gave you a nice mind stat buff. NGE has removed all decent buffs from this well known class. The one they left you with (XP Buff) actually does not work and has been proven to not work. 6 months later this class is still broke dick.

I could go on here. But trust me when I say this...dont buy the fucking game. it was once enjoyable. Hell I had a ball in it. Now I would not let George Lucas and Smedley lick the sweat off my balls if they were dying of thirst. These two dicks ruined the "Star Wars Experience" so much so I actually threw out almost all my star wars movies.

Unfortunately that was just speculation. Smedley admitted that the NGE was in the works for over 8 months because they just hated working in the old code.

Hmm, are you sure?

I'll look for the Lucasarts PR, and the Lucasarts designer on the forums who was the catalyst behind all these changes. I could've sworn an LA guy was the new designer and SOE was just doing the implementation now.

if EVE had space combat like SWG it would be jizztastic

so far though SWG seems like 1 part TIE Fighter, 1 part Privateer, and 1 part shitty MMO. all together makes for a tolerable game, but very fun in space

i think i'm going to get the all access pass. that way i get this + planetside, and can charge my friend for an EQ2 account

IMO SWG is far more enjoyable now than it was before, though I didn't experience a ton of it.

No one actually came out and said it was LucasArts. It was all speculation since it seemed to take so much of SoE by surprise and the turnover rate was spectacular. Rumors were flying left and right but nothing was actually from any horse's mouth.
