if you'd done luclin shard camping before the caveman zone got changed you'd understand

I understand you're a follower months behind, with safehouse strats and all, but quit trying to pretend you were a badass eq player

you weren't

I'm starting to rethink the 1 month to luclin thing

I was thinking of when Vazaelle, and SZ opened, how long it took the top guilds to catch up, but I guess they had awesome kunark lvl'ing to augment the old world too

hrm

it actually sounds really interesting

It'd be fun to actually hear:

Ya it sounds cool - i think they should make it pvp to slow down the progression more so and make it 3 seperate guilds have to kill each world boss Nag / vox / Pof / Poh to make Kunark live.

kill again

I think they should put 6 months in between opening new expansion content. That'd be a better solution

yeah it does. It'd make the game easier for people who want to experience content.

yeah, i would like to see the expansions i missed, like luclin, ykesha, and GoD. i never saw any of the raid content there.

though i did get to kill LiS with 10sun and sutiea but we didn't have bane weapons so pretty much it was just long and gay

even with bane weapons Seru was long and gay

that was actually pretty much all of Luclin

the 1st giant rock mob in VT was a 30-40 minute fight, and you knew within the first 20 seconds if you were going to win or not

it was like every fight was Vulak (biggest let down ever when they nerfed him)

it's hard to say how you'd open the new expansion

have 1 guild kill all of naggy/vox/PoF/PoH/PoSky?

jeje, that'd be hard to clear sky with just old school weapons
impossible if you tried with just 24 people like it was intended

Hmm, mob cap limits and minimal timeframes.

The issue here would be not letting the lifers burn through the content and open everything fast, IMO.

how do you implement artificial time sinks that don't feel like artificial time sinks tho?

that's a problem no MMO has solved yet

Velious was a good start (ie, you could access 99% of the bosses at day 1, but you'd get your ass kicked(sontalak/AoW/Tunare, jeje) until you'd geared up on easier content for a while)

ps, greatest mob strat ever

Tunare

pin the bitch in a corner, have everyone grown, and dog pile onto the tank so that the knockback can't affect him

from what I read the other day the content will be opened thru quests and raid encounters.... I would guess the main mobs will need to be killed to open the next area then progress thru that to open next then so on and so forth....

on my guilds website we have a link to the info's about this....

Depends on what your interpretation of "fast" is. Without twinked weaponry, theres no way your going to get through late Kunark (or any expansion thereafter) without significant farming and letting the non-lifers catch up, in at least a experienced-content sense. Obviously knowledge of where the min-max weapons drop will speed things up a tad.

I really don't see how they're going to handle POP though. Without guild cooperation, I don't see enough hardcore people lasting long enough to field 72+ raids to take down Coirnav and the Rathe.

I'm on the other side of the fence on the progression. I think it's going to be too slow to keep people entertained enough to stick it out. Do you *really* want to farm the ghoul lord to get everyone ykesha's to go kill nagafen?

*edit* I think they have 3 routes they could go.

1 - Drastically up the spawn rate on nameds. I had an idea that for a named placeholder, it should automatically respawn on its regular spawn cycle till the named comes up, and then the named remains, so that if you're camping it, you have to go through placeholders. But FFS, the first time anyone ever goes through a dungeon, ALL the nameds should be up no?

2 - Put fableds in from day 1. Would bolster the quality of gear coming in from the get go and provide mini-raid type targets as you level.

3 - GM events on a regular basis to drop some decent items that are a bit "above the rim" to kickstart progression.

the odd part will be people relearning how to play their class

the 1-50 balance is quite a bit different

(ps, I wonder if there will be no beastlords until luclin opens?)

if the fableds were in at day 1 you'd have to organise a raid to kill the ghoul lord

do you think you'd actually need everyone in top end gear to beat naggy/vox now?

in general, people are better players compared to when EQ was new
everyone now will know to max HP and AC and resists, compared to back then thinking that agi or dex meant fuck all

everybody knew to max resists and anybody at the top end back then thought ac was king, and they were right (for the time)

Better players, ya but you still need good fire resist and good weapons/dps to kill naggy if you're all level 50s. Granted raids are a bit more organised, so you won't have to buff people then have them camp out so save on timers but it still won't be a total joke with only old world gear available

Something like this makes me contemplate re-installing the game. I've been out of EQ for about a year and half now.

The biggest attraction for me, however, would be to play with my old friends that I have long since lost touch with. I actually miss them like I would miss a RL friend of family member!

The only downside I really care about is that it would be exceedingly difficult for me to have that same feeling I had when I first installed the game. I knew NOTHING about the world. It was my first MMO. I didn't understand why the merchants kept one shotting me, until I learned that simply hitting the A button made you swing. The first time I saw a mammoth in everfrost was breathtaking. It just won't be the same the second time around.

Nevertheless, I am really tempted to play around! If any of my friends read this, email me at danield420@yahoo.com.

Where's my Decade/Veratae's Blade folk!

Duro and I were talking about this, and trying to figure out all the sources of old school haste

we came up with:
FBSS, haste sword (mith 2hander?) guk
spined seahorse belt or whatever from the seahorse in Kedge

then of course COF from naggy

what else was there for haste?
