Mark Cuban is a God

Final game of the year... it's "Fan Appreciation Night." Between the 1st and 2nd quarter, Mark and an American Airline's executive announce that they are giving away tickets to anywhere AA flys outside of Dallas Love Field... to every single fan in the building. That's 21,000 fans... for a throwaway game... free flight.

All we ever get in Memphis is Shane Battier throwing his shoes into the crowd at the end of the last home game.....lame.

It's 19,000 fans, not 21. And it was given as a marketing promo by American Airlines.

It's a nice deal, and I realize you e-love Cuban, but it didnt cost him a dime, and was a promotional tool, Vonk.

The AAC holds 20894 for mavs games and it was a sold out game... whether or not they were all in their seats is another thing. Furthermore, I never said Cuban paid for anything... I just said he's a god. I could say, "mark cuban is a god" and spend my thread talking about Mogadishu.

Aaaand, according to the Dallas Morning News...
Along with about 20,000 ticket vouchers given away at the game, the promotion gave away 1,000 tickets to viewers who used mobile phones to text-message promotional codes.

20+1...
:dunno:

Yeah, Love field sucks ass compared to DFW. This is marketing for them, pure and simple.

Almost every PR and newsrelease says around 19k tickets, maybe 20k with the home users. Psst, you left the added 1k off.

Thats cool, but Mark ain't footing the bill.

Note, thats not an extra 1k. Actually, thats an extra 2k. Pick your battles? Roger.

American Airlines gave out vouchers for free flights to everyone at the Mavericks' final regular-season game. Fans jumped to their feet and cheered when team owner Mark Cuban and American executive Dan Garton announced the giveaway to an estimated 19-thousand fans between the first and second quarters.

Hey, look at the title of the Ft Worth Star Telegram

American gives out 19,000 vouchers at Mavs game

From the Press page of the AAC

the 19,200-seat American Airlines Center

Now, I'm sure Cuban can go over capacity, but thats the seating for it.

Hell, even he is saying 20k max, with the 1000 at home (that you didnt mention). Plus, Cuban isn't paying a dime. No doubt he's a smart guy, but stop with the rampant fanboisism to a guy who made a killing on funny money and Internet stocks and jumped ship wisely. This ain't his dime, just Marky doing what he does best, swindle others, and getting his ugly mug on the news.

If every fan at the game, plus 1,000 watching at home redeem their vouchers, they could have a face value of more than $3 million, based on the average $79 one-way fare on American's Love Field service.

Garton, however, said the cost would be much less, partly because not everyone will use the vouchers. He also said some people with vouchers will bring along a paying companion.

"It's a big promotion for us," Garton said. "It's worth a lot if we get 20,000 people to fly on those flights."

Cuban was asked how the giveaway by American, a unit of AMR Corp., compared to Winfrey's gift of automobiles to the studio audience at one of her shows.

"How many did she give away?" he asked. "This is 20,000 people."

"Pick your battles" in this instance means, "who the fuck cares?" Like... that's a whole lot of effort to prove the grass is green vs chartreuse. This is me saying, "hey everyone, look how cool this is!" Random dude02 comes in saying, "Actually, it's not that cool. Here's why." :ugh: thanks? Sandy vagina, much? Were you just looking for something to debate?

In other news, I just got a text message from AA.com saying that I was one of the 1,000 winners at home...
Congrats, U won! Ur exclusive discount code is: ########## Go 2 AA.com by April 30, 2006 to book ur flight. 4info & Official Rules go to 4mavs.com

neato, I'd say... but I'm sure Lyion will want to debate 'that' opinion too.

You can use the ticket to fly to Lyion's land and debate him in person.

I must raise my Epeen status for better chance of wooing the women here. You know thats my M.O, Vonk.

Cuban annoys me. Nothing really more than that. One can't argue his marketing though and I wish other teams would do what he did and get bennies for the fans, even if it ain't out of their pocket. That is definitely neat.

Really, this is almost identical to the Oprah deal, but instead of giving 79 people 20,000, they gave 20,000 people 79 dollars. Great publicity and good for Love field, but it doesn't change my dislike for Cuban.

Congrats on the ticket. Thats cool. Definitely a good promotion and I wish more sports franchises would hold back a few mil they pay their overpriced underachieving stars and give back in promotions like this, or do what Cuban did and leverage sponsors for marketing and promotions.
