Brown Recluse Spiders...

suck.

"It was a quiet morning at 5:00 am on May 6th, 2002 and I was lying in the bed with my wife. I felt a slight tickle on my upper thigh of my left leg under the covers and proceeded to brush it away. As my hand struck the blanket I felt a slight stinging sensation on my leg. Little did I know that moment was going to change my life forever, I lifted the covers to see the outline of a small, brown quarter size spider on my bed. My wife woke up startled and asked me “What is it?â€

It's a bad photoshop

The necrosis caused by the Brown Recluse is nowhere near as extreme as that, or as common as it is leading you to believe.

Most Brown Recluse bites don't even inject their venom, about 1 in 3 do at most.

I've actually been bitten by a brown recluse before, and I'm not sure if I was just lucky, but it wasnt *horrible*

My arm swole up to the size of a baseball for about a while, was horribly red and bruised, and you could see the fang imprints. Hurt and itched like a bitch; that was about it, though.

Where were you living at the time? Where were you exactly when you got bitten?

Furthermore, identification of spiders is a specialist skill and an average hospital doctor cannot be relied on to make an accurate diagnosis of a spider species without a good microscope, some specialist spider literature, and considerable experience. A diagnosis at-a-glance by a non-expert, comparing a spider with a photo, is almost completely worthless.

You were likely bit by a Hobo Spider, the bite is less severe than that of a Brown Recluse...

When we lived in GA one of our co-workers was bit by a brown recluse on the back of her neck. Since she got treatment as soon as she got bit and took the dead spider with her the damage was fairly minimal. She did have a nasty dead area there and it took a while to heal.

Brown recluses like to hide in boxes and dark places. So if you are getting a package from an area with them be careful when unpacking it.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

A local doctor around here years ago came up with a way to heal brown recluse spider (or "fiddlebacks" as we call them here in Oklahoma) more quickly. He would take a stun gun and use the wire attachment to shock around the bite area to break up the venom so the body can fight it easier.

It really works wonders as they are very common in our area and he's shown numerous cases where it has worked. My mom and dad both at different times have had fiddleback bites and took the stun gun treatment. They healed very quickly as opposed to my aunt that went the regular medication approach through a different doctor.

Hunters have been doing that with rattlesnake bitten dogs for years by taking an ignition wire off the distributor cap of their vehicle and hit the bite area with it while cranking the engine.

Yeah, the doctor that did the technique has been dead for years now. He said he got the idea from similar treatments as you have mentioned but had found it to work well for spider bites as well. He spoke to my school back when I was in 5th grade. (Wow, that makes me feel old now that I think of it.)

JESUS TAPDANCING CHRIST i knew i shouldn't have clicked on this thread :ugh:

i am terrified of spiders. brown recluses are like a personal demon of mine or something.

our dad used to work as a photographer at the local paper, and when they switched to all digital photography, the darkroom fell into disuse and became a storage area. they soon discovered that it was a favorite haunt of several brown recluse fellows and that room has since been avoided like the plague. YUCK.

Thats because they inject your with sleeping-venom before they have a picnic on your face.
