Since I've started to play an instrument
I've suddenly lost interest in a lot of the older music I used to listen to and gained respect moreso for other music I didn't listen to as often.
I've been playing guitar for a little while now, on and off, my sister's boyfriend gave me his guitar (brand new Fender Strat) it's great for my ginormous hands.
I was playing on Aryylas' Ibanez, and while I liked the sound it produced, it was very difficult to play with my huge hands.
Anyone else who learned to play an instrument even slightly start to change their musical tastes? Just curious...
My respect for the guitarists of a few bands has exploded since I started playing more...

How do you like this spoiler, motherfucker? -Lyion
My 9 or 10 years of playing piano gave me a seething vehement hatred towards any song with piano in it. Except for Billy Joels "Piano Man" because that's just good stuff.
I also have some meat paws but managed to learn to play the fiddle. All that did was make me respect those who play tiny stringed instruments well.

That's awesome Harri
Yep, I play a wide range of instruments and over the years developed an enormous amount of admiration for people like Enya and Phil Collins (they can play every instrument you hear playing in their music, not to mention they compose the musis as well.)
I started learning to play guitar when I was 12. I gained a whole new respect for people like Eric Clapton and Slash as musicians. That is what began my love for real Metal.

Yeah it changes you for sure. Even changes the way you listen to music. Start to listen to individual arrangements and instruments in the songs rather than just the hook.
Try playing some blues songs Harrison, they sound really cool as a guitar solo. I assume you can read tablature? Check this out: http://www.fenderplayersclub.com/pdfs/l ... starts.pdf
Listen to and try playing the last song there. If you're still pretty new to it all don't let yourself get overwhelmed, take it in and learn it in smaller pieces.

That song is cake really, 2 strings for the most part.. It really is simple.. try to figure it out, don't let yourself get intimidated.. Even if you just get down the first 10 notes, it still sounds cool.

There I made the first part super simple for you.. Try adding this to it once you have that down..

And there you'll have a neat sounding, easy to play blues tune.

I'll write out another little tune I like, this one might take a bit more effort to get right though.. This is the bridge part of Freshmen by Verve Pipe..
