You have a good point - more important factors to consider (in the shittier muslim countries) are low literacy rates, lack of or very little access to western literature/media, and a general culture that is - ideologically/socially structured to more or less degrees - on par with the dark ages.

I think the only long solution is to bombard them - not with missles - but with information. At every possible opportunity.

the point is, for every screwed up law you can pull out of the Koran, you can find an equally fucked up one in the Bible. including those dietary ones

You totally missed the point, Thon. My point was that Lyion said this:

The Koran has impicit instructions for laws and governing, and promotes Islamic nations with Sharia Laws and has specific rules for countries. The bible does not have these.

And I merely pointed out the fallacy of his statement by bringing up the "rules" of Leviticus. I could have also brought up the Ten Commandments, as well as many other "rules" or "laws" in the bible whose sole purpose was to in fact help govern and guide a decent, healthy, and moral society.

And when I said "This thread has been Lyionized" I said it because Lyion just got owned (again) and I feel an impending lock on the thread.

Are you going to bomb them with magic literacy wands first so that they can read the educational information?

Ok, teachers... fine. How are you going to get them to open up their closed, brainwashed minds first? You send a teacher over there and they will abduct her, put her in an orange jumpsuit, and then saw her head off in the name of "Allah." Give it up man. These people are hopeless.

Do you have a TV? Perhaps you should watch the news some time, my underinformed friend. Also go to Ogrish.com and watch the 30+ videos of beheadings of Christians, westerners, and anybody else who says anything against Islam.

What, no comment on my proof of huge numbers of violent murdering Christian whackjobs, which both Mindia and Lyion claimed didn't really exist?

I didn't say they didn't exist, Arlos. You really should pay closer attention. On the contrary, I agreed with Tikker that there are Christian whackjobs out there, as well as the many "Christian" "leaders" who have contorted scripture so much that they had people almost worshiping and following them instead of Christ... cong David Koresh, Jim Jones, etc. We can go back through history and look at the many examples of fanatical Christians killing people for "heresy" and other ridiculous assumptions. I'd like to cite examples like the Crusades, the Inquisition, murderous/corrupt Popes (Benedict IX, John XII, Innocent III, Innocent IV, Gregory IX, etc. etc. etc.) Yes indeed, there were several whacked-out nutjobs throughout history who engaged in horrible acts in the name of Christianity.

The bible is full of similar events. Stoning, crucifixion, whippings, sacrifices. Those were the beliefs and culture of an early version of Christianity as it is today. We as a society we may not agree with what's going on and how they as a sect, but how many wars have Christians waged in the name of god in the past? How many of *their* people have *we* killed for the same reasons? During the crusades did Christians kill because god really told them to? They sure thought so. And they were supported by the culture they lived in at the time. You can call them brainwashed if you like, but most view it as conviction. From their point of view, (and maybe 1,000 years from now future Muslims will have a different outlook) they were justified. Today we may not see what our ancestors did as righteous, but we weren't raised in that culture.

Had you been a white guy in 1865 living in Georgia would you have thought Lincoln was a crazy man, or right away seen the errors of your ways? If you didn't immediately change your mind would it be ok for someone to say you're hopeless and bomb your town? People don't change over night. Even as recent as 100-200 years ago their culture would have been closer to the norm for the world vs. ours. What's that line? Judge not something or another?

And going back to the whole cartoon thing... Would you get offended if someone depicted Moses fucking one of those goats? Just because he's not God doesn't mean he's not a beloved profit. How do you think Catholics would feel about a cartoon of the pope spanking little boys?

We all just need to become Buddhist. Have you ever met an angry Buddhist?

I made no such claim. Nor did I feel your post really merited or was meant for thoughtful current events exchange, but seemed more appropriate to Mindia and not to Donnel or I.

It most definitely should not have been directed towards me. I'm the one who agreed with Tikker about there being Christian whackjobs.

Funny you should mention that. I just met a Catholic Priest at my parents who is an older Asian guy who used to be a Buddhist. He has great stories and a wonderful outlook on life.

Much of what you are discussing is the Old Testament, which for many sects is superseded by the New Testament. The Golden Rule is the driving ideal behind Christianity. Not Leviticus or anything from the old testament.

Also, as has been proven over and over politics driven by religion is a dangerous combination, whether the religion is Islam, Christianity, or even Atheism.

I agree with an earlier sentiment that Islam needs to get out of its Medieval mentality and to evolve. The huge difference between Islam and most other religions is Sharia, and while it remains a focal point, there will continue to be strife.

Once again, a decent and respectable idea, but it would be rejected immediately by the extremists.

So we should just drop the bomb and kill them all. That's obviously the only other alternative.

No, we should just not do anything and let them continue to perform worldwide atrocities in the name of "Allah" or "Muhammad."

Ok so you're saying the only other alternative is to wipe them out. Am I correct in that assumption?
