By dividing the number of AP and IB tests taken at a school by the number of graduating seniors, we can measure how committed the school is to helping kids take college-level courses.

This is a terrible measurement stick, IMO. This doesn't even take into account how many pass their AP, and what their APs are in?

A much better one would be how many graduating students finish college.

This list is worthless, and not at all valid, IMO.

I don't even have to look to see that my school isn't anywhere on that list.

am glad to see our Academic Magnet High School in N Charleston made #10 though, is a great school

Man, at least two of the MN high schools on there were ones that have been known to be nothing but a joke. One was specifically dubbed "Ironjail" and was full of druggies and flunkers.

Not really, and the school wasn't really "known" for anything (sports/academics etc.) of course this was 1999 also, so a lot could have changed though I doubt it. The highest ranked MN school was Edina which doesn't suprise me at all. Irondale and Mounds View making the list is downright shocking.

He is actually right, the data they choose to analyze is horrible. It has absalutly nothing to do with how good a high school is. All it says is that a high % of people take AP classes. For all we know 99% of the school takes AP art and 98% fail it (Yes their is an AP art class). They also didn't include all HS's.

To make a truely acurate list, they need to change their standard of judging the school and include all school or atleast be honest that they left out a large number of them.
