Moussaoui Gets Life for Role in Sept. 11
AP - 4 minutes ago

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A federal jury rejected the death penalty for al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui on Wednesday and decided he must spend life in prison for his role in the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history. After seven days of deliberation, the nine men and three women rebuffed the government's appeal for death for the only person charged in this country in the four suicide jetliner hijackings that killed nearly 3,000 people on Sept. 11, 2001.

Some juries make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

oh actually this is a good thing. Even murderers and rapists fucking hate terrorists. Come to think of it everyone hates terrorists except for liberals who would willingly get poo-stabbed by Moussaui and his friends.

but thats not my point... Moussaoui is going to have a shitty time in prison. I don't expect him to last very long. I think its better than the death penalty.

After the verdict is read, he clapped his hands and said: "America, you lost. I won."

Would you rather see him appeal the shit out of this on death row in solitary confinement for years and years, then die an easy death, or get thrown into a NYC prison? I vote NYC prison.

Bush comments on the verdict:

"Mr. Moussaoui got a fair trial," Bush said. "The jury convicted him to life in prison, where he will spend the rest of his life. In so doing, they spared his life, which is something that he evidently wasn't willing to do for innocent American citizens."

"As I think about the trial, I can't help but think about the families who lost a loved one on September the 11th," Bush said. "I think about the rescuers who tried to save lives in the burning buildings."

"And I know that it's really important for the United States to stay on the offense against these killers and bring them to justice," he said. "And those are my thoughts about the Moussaoui trial."

I agree, to get the death penality would have been an easy way out and would have probally been a more honorable way to die, in his culture

(I dont know the 1st thing about their culture, but if suicide bombings are honorable I am assuming death by us would be too /:dunno:)

Anyway, I think living among Americans he hated so much, and having to be someone's bitch and prison life is more of a punishment than death.

In this case I'd rather see him in prison for the rest of his life. The only problem is that our prisons are filled with Muslims who will protect him.

I'm anti death-penalty anyway, so I'm glad he didn't get executed. At the same time I agree with many others, he'll have a worse time in prison. The only worry I'd have isn't that he'd be protected by other muslims just because he is muslim, I hope he doesn't get any special treatment (e.g. confinment or whatnot). I want this guy to be out there with the rest of the inmates, not shielded by anything / anyone.

I loved the judge's remarks.

"Mr. Moussaoui, you came here to be a martyr in a great big bang of glory," she said, "but to paraphrase the poet T.S. Eliot, instead you will die with a whimper."
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

Ummm..he will be in a 6X9 cell in a supermax prison in Florence, CO for 23 hours a day and for the 24th hour he will be in a solitary exercise situation where he walks around on an indoor track by himself.

The only other human beings he will see are his guards.

I would think life is a better choice than executing him to be honest. I base that sheerly on the fact that in his culture isn't dying for your cause considered something that would not only make him a matyr and hero to his people, but would in his religion garuntee him entrace to heaven? If its so honorable to die for his cause, why let him have that honor, let him rot instead.

That's a nice thought Adi but the dude is a paranoid schizophremic, a self centered being that couldn't care less about his sentence. He doesn't even know what he had for breakfast this morning. He has no cause but to make you think he has one. A manipulator to his own end, and he has no idea what that end is.

Even his compatriots in Al Queda deny his relevance in the 911 plot. And they're not real shy about sayin what's what.

If it makes ya feel better that this guy is in supermax forever, thats cool. If you get any kind of satisfaction or closure about 911 because of it, that's another story.

Moussaoui now recants his testimony. From Associated Press:

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Convicted Sept. 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui says he lied on the witness stand about being involved in the plot and wants to withdraw his guilty plea because he now believes he can get a fair trial.

In a motion filed Friday but released Monday, Moussaoui said he testified March 27 he was supposed to hijack a fifth plane on Sept. 11, 2001, and fly it into the White House “even though I knew that was a complete fabrication.â€

Put him in jail, fed him only pork and give him daily baths in pig-fat. Publisize this prolifically in the muslim world to say "We won't let you to be a martyr, by doing these acts, we will condemn you to eternal hell"

From Associated Press:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A single holdout kept the jury from handing a death sentence to Zacarias Moussaoui, the only person charged in this country in the September 11, 2001, attacks.

But that juror never explained his vote, said the foreman of the jury that last week sentenced the confessed al Qaeda conspirator to life in prison.

The foreman, a math teacher in Northern Virginia, told The Washington Post that jurors voted three times -- 11-1, 10-2 and 10-2 -- in favor of the death penalty on the three terrorism charges that each qualified Moussaoui for execution.

On April 26, the third day of deliberations, the jury's frustrations reached a critical point because of several 11-1 votes on one charge. But no one could figure out who was casting the dissenting vote, the foreman said, because that person didn't identify himself during any discussion -- and all the votes were done using anonymous ballots.

"But there was no yelling," she said in an interview for the Post's Friday editions. "It was as if a heavy cloud of doom had fallen over the deliberation room, and many of us realized that all our beliefs and our conclusions were being vetoed by one person. ... We tried to discuss the pros and cons. But I would have to say that most of the arguments we heard around the deliberation table were" in favor of the death penalty.

The foreman, who was not identified by the Post, said she voted for the death penalty because she believed the government proved its case. She was the second juror to be interviewed by the Post since the trial ended. The first juror said he voted for life in prison because he thought that Moussaoui, 37, had only a marginal role in the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema had ordered the identities of the jurors withheld for security reasons. The Post said the foreman contacted the newspaper and was interviewed on the condition of anonymity by a reporter who recognized her from the trial.

After the jury of nine men and three women rejected the government's appeal for the death penalty for Moussaoui, Brinkema gave him six life sentences, to run as two consecutive life terms in the federal supermax prison at Florence, Colorado.

In a motion filed Monday, Moussaoui said he lied on the witness stand about being involved in the terrorist plot and wanted to withdraw his guilty plea and go to trial. The judge turned him down.
