Sprint sucks
OK, so I bought a sprint phone and signed a two year contract 2 years ago this past Feb. I have been happy with my Sprint service. THe only thing is, everytime I move and have to change my number, they put me in a new 2 year contract. Sprint says they have service where I live now, but EVERYWHERE I am is roaming. I can walk two feet to the left, and I won't be in roaming, but if I try to use the phone in the exact spot later, I am in roaming. I am thinking about switching to Verizon, but they want a deposit, and I will have a large fee with Sprint. What should I do?

pay the money to drop sprint and get verizon. Verizon is lightyears beyond all the other carriers IMO.

I was in your shoes!!!!!!!
I canceled my sprint breaking the contract. I was able to resell my phone on ebay for 200 which payed for the contract breaking so I came out even.
Now I use skype.com for my calls. 30 dollars a year to have a number anyone can call and only .02 a minute to call almost anywhere. Free skype to skype calls.
Of course you lose the benefit of using a phone anywhere and you must be at a computer. (unless you buy the sweet linksys usb wireless phone that acts like a portable phone around the house!)
I got sick of people calling me and I got even more sick of people expecting me to answer just because I had a cell.

My point is, why should I have to pay a cancellation fee when the phone service is not available in this area. I can pay 5 a month for free roaming, but I still only get service half the time. Why should I pay a fee to break a service contract when I have no service.

Oh I agree with you. Do you have prepaid legal or something?
If you are going to end your service with Sprint, just make sure you are willing to have a lawyer get them to remove the minor damage they might do to your credit if it ever ends up on there.
Now that I have been in business for awhile I am very aggressive with companies that do not live up to their end of a contract.
I think the American consumer should get more on board with this mentality too. These big companies screw people left and right and assume they are immune.
If I were you I would call Sprint and cancel and explain why you are cancelling and make them aware that they have not lived up to the agreement signed. Also get the information/phone numbers of the reps you talk to.
If they try and hit you with a cancellation fee fuck em. Pay you last months bill and don't pay the fine. Go with Verizon.
If it does ever end up on your credit have a lawyer handle it. They won't bother fighting it and it will be removed.
PS Go vote on my computer case thread. I need female opinions.

Not trying to sound like a dick, but the reason is because you singed a contract, remeber Sprint is a buisness they don't give a flying fuck if you moved and you get no service now, they just want your cash.
I have Verizon as well, I love it best cell phone carrier I've had so far, and I've used Sprint, Cingular, Altell.

These fuckers are going to charge me the fee anyway. I told them I dont get service in this area, there records show they do have service out here. I told him to come to my house, and we would go for a drive to see how long it is before we are out of the roaming area. 45 miles!! I told them to bill me for the cancellation fee. I'm going to the Verizon store now

You do of course realize that Srint is Nextell, and Verizon is alltel and Cingular is Bell
Soon there will only be one provider with 47 names....I am using Nextell (Verizon) and where I am it sucks ass. the 2-way is horrible and scrambles unless you are in exactly the right spot and with a clear (uncloudy) view to the sky. Diviate one little bit and your shit no workeee. Dropped calls on Nextell are terrible as well. I hate to admit it, but the best service we have in this area is Cingular

The object of life is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to come screaching in to the grave sidelong in a beatup wreck of a body, loudly proclaiming "WOW What a ride!"

I think I am going to stick with Cingular because Gid switched over and we get free calling to each other. Oh, and Jay.
I'm getting whatever cell phone carrier Darcler gets.
Verizon is a very good service however I think their phone selection is kinda sparse. That's why I have Cingular (and free calling to Darcler). Not so much for the Cingular phones, but because I can order cool ass phones from Europe and drop my Cingular chip into em and use em. Verizon doesn't use the chip unfortunately. Also, rollover saves my ass big time. My usage is like 2000 a month then 4000-5000 the next so it's crucial.

And Kizz, you moved on your own free will. That's not Sprint's fault that you moved into an area that they don't cover. What I would do in your shoes before cancelling would be to first talk to a rep and correct the bill. If you're patient, they respond. Next thing, go to a Sprint store and ask if there's any sort of settings that make it to where your current area is considered roaming as opposed to your previous area. I think it's called the local system ID. Lastly, if they are dicks and make the charges stick, go to Verizon but get in contact with the PUC (Public Utilities Commission) and state your case with them and have your previous bills as a reference tool. They have the power to get Sprint removed from the BBB and Sprint as well as any other cell phone company will bend over if the PUC flexes some muscle. That's how I got out of my Sprint contract when I first moved to CA.

I did go tot he Sprint store yesterday. The only thing they could do is set my phone to ONLY work with Sprint towers, which means no service at all in this area. I switched to Verizon, and got a new number. I hate loosing all my cool ringtones. Grrr. I have to spend a couple of hours putting all my numbers in my new phone though, I should have done it last night in the ER. I wasn't thinking.
