Ok since I got some pretty decent responses I'll tell you what I want to do in the VERY near future.

Case one with the lights is my first choice down the road.

I am going to have the manufacturer ditch the window on the size and make a solid panel. On that panel will be a chrome Fuse "F". The "Tuniq" badging on the front will also be gone. The only light will be on the front temperature gauge and you will be able to change the color of the light via the BIOS or a software interface in Windows.

I have to drop 50k to get the cases done that way and I can't do that yet.

I love the design on the first one but the window is shitty and the manufacturer doesn't have a solid plate on the side yet.

Now Tikker's comments:

I agree on he door issue. I don't like it either, but for my first system I am targeting affordable high-end systems. The average run of the mill case will not catch the attention of the consumers in that market. Aesthetically, the cases with the doors look better IMO.

Here is another thing... A huge amount of my customers are women, or they are men who have to get their wives permission to buy...How the thing looks is a big concern to them which I have heard vocalized way too many times.

The look of the system and the marketing is just as important in this business as the service and hardware.

Next issue: Upgrades, PC-modding etc...

As far as I am concerned I just am not getting into the market of targeting people whose only intent is to buy a cheap system and upgrade the hell out of it on their own. There are a million people providing that type of service and a million boutique vendors who will let you pick every single option on the computer.

My systems will allow minor upgrades/downgrades, choose you monitor and peripherals and that is it.

The main reason for this is consistency with parts and builds tends to create systems that have little to no problems once the initial design is complete. Not to mention supporting the customer becomes infinitely easier, which results in a better support experience for them.

In a nutshell, customers won't be choosing between motherboards, whether or not their PC has water cooling etc etc.

What my currents customers can expect and they get is a PC that is ready to rock out of the box, has excellent support, is loaded with full version software to meet their basic needs, simple to use and very fast. Our support is usually top notch.

My outlook is that if you want a totally custom PC from end to end there is a 100 Alienware-like companies providing that service. If you want a decent computer at a fair price you are stuck with Dell and HP. Dell completely blows and HP is decent at best.

Hopefully I can fit in all this somewheres ; )

Ok, since you are looking purely for exterior aesthetics, here's a picture of one I think looks pretty nice.
Image
Note: I am ONLY listing this as an example because of how it looks... not it's usability.
As far as ease of use for the typical consumer, it sucks major ass IMO (well, except for the slide out motherboard tray, but that'd be for me, not for your buyers lol).
I wouldn't recommend this case specifically, but something that has styling like this defintely catches my eye.

I dont know, you have to sell for the consumer, and gaming systems will be sold to adolesences and teenagers for the most part, and they have always based what they buy on how perdy things are, liked neon lights, and clear windows. Also i think a black metal case with red, blue or white neon lights with a window on the side would sell the best, just because of the whole ima so eemmmooo phase people are going through right now, and because i think black with red blue or white would look hott.

believe or not one of the fastest and soon to be largest PC markets is adults.

They want computers that will game, do their taxes and edit video too. I think building machines strictly for gaming is a bit limiting. I tend to market the machines for both games and content creation/daily usage in an attempt to garner a larger audience.

I also like Trie's thermaltake case. I was seriously considering that model too.

The ThermalTake and the SilverStone are great internally. When it comes to adding and removing hardware they are great. The bottom would generally be against my normal taste but it has good air flow and the 2 side doors are surprisingly convenient. Also like that its on wheels.

I will agree the top is the best of the 4, probably why its the first one I posted :).

This is the case I personally use, could do without the clear side, but overall it is great. Weighs a ton but its nice and solid, fits everything I have with room to spare and good air flow.

Today I picked up

Image

and I love it. Buttons are on top and you cannot tell from pic, but the whole front is a black mesh screen, so any lights inside the case glow through. Also, I think this is the quietest case I have ever seen in my years around PCs. That and no shitty doors on the front.

I built Laura's machine with this case. It looks neat, and is pretty well built. But the cooling could be better, and that damn door squeaks and wont stay open and is generally annoying.

Im with Tikker. From now on, fuck cases with doors. At least poorly designed ones.

I really like how ThermalTake Tai-Chi Case Silver opens up, kind of innovative and exciting!
