National Guard heads to border to stop illegal immigration.
President Bush will order National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to support Border Patrol agents in stopping illegal immigration. The number of troops will be fewer than 10,000.

Idiotic move. Hey, let's declare war on the avocado pickers!
Why not enforce work laws and quit allowing illegal alien babies to be granted citizenship.
Given we already have 12+ million illegals here, putting troops on the border now is like getting gas masks months after a chemical attack has already occured.
The issue is here, not on the border.
Besides, terrorists are more likely to come from Canada. If they fly through Mexico, they'd never make it past the Donkey shows in TJ.

Why does it have to be either/or? Let's do both. Send the troops in to halt the infestation of illegals, and at the same time start working on programs which will track down the ones who have breached our borders.
Because Mexico is a close friend of the US. Generally, it's considered rude to put armed troops on a border. Also, illegal aliens aren't nearly the problem that they are made out to be.
This is a manufactured crisis. This is a token political gesture, instead of real political change. Quit granting citizenship to illegal alien kids, and have stiffer penalties for those employing non legals would be more effective, better diplomatically, cheaper, and a long term solution.

Vicente Fox is no friend of the United States. Everything coming out of that blathering idiot's mouth is counter-productive to the interests of America. Sending the troops in to defend our borders is an excellent idea, and will convey the message to Senor Vicente that we are serious about stopping the influx of illegal aliens from Mexico to America. The only mistake we made is that this border-strengthening, via U.S. Troops, wasn't implemented YEARS ago.
Defend our borders against what? A poor guy with 4 kids trying to pick enough avocados to feed his family this month?
Psst, the drugs will still be heading into Florida unabated, and the middle eastern terrorists will still be able to walk through the Canadian border crossing.
Meanwhile, we spend millions on a token move that really will do nothing for this problem except put a small plug into the flow of migrant workers.
Vicente Fox isn't the problem, he has no real authority, anyways.

I'm with the Capt on this one. Set up landmines on the border. Reduces the amount of troops needed on the border and would definitely deter any illegals from crossing the border.
Put them on both borders for double the fun.

Except it's not against Mexican law to enter America and work here without a Visa.
If I were in his shoes, and my people were dirt poor and could find 10 times better paying jobs with a chance at a real life, I'd be telling them to go for it, too.
Putting Guard on the border doesn't solve the problem, either. It just adds more cash, red tape, and government interference into something that has a simple solution that requires none of that.

Whatever the case may be in Mexico, or whatever frame of mind V. Fox is in, he's still not helping the matter any by encouraging Mexicans to cross the border illegally. I heard him say that in a couple different speeches. He's a POS, imo.
And to all the Mexicans who decided to take May 1st off to "show us" how hard life is without Mexicans in America for even one day... how about this: All the businesses take a day off so Mexicans don't get paid for a day. Turn it around on them and then see how they feel.
And I don't give a rat's ass about "Mexican Law." That should have no bearing whatsoever on how we feel about them coming across the border illegally. Please tell me you're just messing with me Lyion, because you're not making any sense on this topic, honestly.

Lyion you can't possibly believe it's okay for him to encourage Mexicans to enter our country illegally-our laws state you need to be here legally. Those are our laws. Where we live.
I used to think the way that you do, but that was five years ago when it wasn't a problem. It is a problem now, our country is wonderful and we welcome anyone-legally. I haven't talked to anyone that doesn't agree that it's a problem that everyone wants resolved. Noone wants to kick out the poor guy with four kids-but they know they are coming illegally and their status is no exception to the rule. It's worse than the parents you see on tv with the kids that have no discipline. You can't expect much from people that don't enforce their own laws.

Lyion disagrees with putting the National Guard on the border and I think it's a great idea. he says that if he were that man and dirt poor he'd go for it too, and I disagree with that also. I don't disagree with having pity for the man, but entering another country illegally is wrong.

Why the hell wouldn't we want them to fix their country? Mexico is rich with natural resources, rich with land mass, rich with a work force that is harder working than most. It's just corrupt as a kennedy like most latin countries. Mexico becoming a self dependant industrialized nation could only work to our benefit.

theyre alot easier to exploit and abuse when the whole place is a 3rd world shit hole.
Oh, there'd be an easy way to get rid of the drug cartel, and provide work for lots of mexican farmworkers: Legalize drugs, or at least pot. Boom. Mexican economy gets huge shot in the arm from major new export crop, criminals are out of business, workers stay in Mexico and grow there than come to the US to do it.
Would save the US a couple hundred billion a year, too.
Just sayin...
