I'm guessing it was a combination of things. Brad has specifically denied that the rumors about MSFT forcing Vanguard to be exclusively on Vista are true through. Same goes for XBox360 pressure.

It is a funny comic though.

Get rid of the pictures of the goofy looking white guy. That opens two right there.

Microsoft invests a lot of money into vanguard.
"Something" happens and microsoft pulls out.
Soe sees a product abandoned after it's almost done in development.
They pay the final deployment costs.
If the project flies they gain lots for little spent.
If the project flops they dont lose a huge investment.

After speaking to my contact recently, I have the actual story, and it's not quite so dramatic.

I can't go into too much detail, but lets just say that issues relating to time-in-development were involved, so Brad went looking for a white knight.

I found it rather interesting that there is a xbox file folder in the Vanguard folder though...

LOL, a no-win situation. They might have ditched Microsoft to get away from having to support XBox360, but maybe Sony forces them to support PS3 down the road?

Brad has become the filling in an evil oreo cookie. :ninja:

this game is going to make Matrix Online look like the second coming of MMO-jesus.

I tihnk th conversation went something like this:

Microsoft Rep: You're taking to long. We're losing money by the minute. We need you to finish Alpha and rush beta so we can hit shelves and recoop our costs.

Vanguard Rep: Our product isn't nearly complete. We need more time if you actually want us to release a game people will want to play.

Microsoft Rep: What gave you the impression we wanted you to release a game people want to play. You seem to have forgotten the Asheron's Call games. We're projecting first week sales to recover a large portion of our initial costs, and then we can string people along with the promises of patches and fixes until we start turning a profit.

Vanguard Rep: You want us to release a sub-par product so that you can start recovering your investment even though the game itself is almost completely unplayable?

Microsoft Rep: I feel like I'm repeating myself, but you seem to have forgot the Asheron's Call games yet again. As far as we're concerned we need you to release the PC version to recover our costs, then once we get the 360 version launched (only because we were unable to work out a viable multiplayer function in Oblivion) we will let the PC version burn itself out due to a lack of support.

Vanguard Rep: ....... how much do you want for your half of our product?
