We have 49 stupid Senators, unfortunately

Postby Narrock » Wed Jun 07, 2006 8:39 pm

WASHINGTON - The Senate rejected a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage by a wide margin Wednesday, delivering a stinging defeat to President Bush and other Republicans who hope the issue will rally GOP voters for the November elections.

The senators' vote was 49-48 to limit debate and bring the amendment to a yes-or-no decision. That was 11 short of the 60 needed, killing the measure in the Senate for this year.

Bush suggested the ban was proper and its time would still come. He said, "Our nation's founders set a high bar for amending our Constitution and history has shown us that it can take several tries before an amendment builds the two-thirds support it needs in both houses of Congress."

Democrats suggested it was all about conservative politics.

"Why is it when Republicans are all for reducing the federal government's impact on people's lives until it comes to these stinging litmus test issues, whether gay marriage or end of life they suddenly want the federal government to intervene?" asked Sen. Dianne Feinstein (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif. "It makes no sense other than throwing red meat to a certain constituency."

 :( :ugh: :darkangel:

Everyone should wear black tomorrow for this outrage. And OMG I can't stand Dykanne Feinswein.

Again, gay marraige hurts you how?

The fact that this was even considered as an amendment shows that we have some serious problems in our gov't.

It makes a mockery out of the sacred institution of marriage. Fudgepackers should just keep to themselves and STFU. Like I already said many, many times before. I'm all for "civil unions" between the polesmokers, but ixnay on the marriage.

And who if forcing churches to perform same sex marriage?

This is the US Constitution. Marriage doesn't belong there, ITS A RELIGIOUS ISSUE.

What say you about 2 gay ppl living together for 20 years keeping to themselves their families disowned them - one gets in a horrid accident and dies.

Family then takes their estate leaving the other gay man or woman with nothing even tho they were together for 20 years?

Then do it in your churches. Stay out of the Gov't. Religion does not belong there.

Bush & Co knew DAMN well going into this that there was no way in hell they had even close to the 2/3 votes necessary for this to pass. It was introduced PURELY as political grandstanding to try and gain points with certain part of the christian right constituency. Notice the only OTHER time Bush ever mentioned it was shortly before elections 2 years ago. Entire rest of the time, never brought up. Right before elections, boom, suddenly an issue.

I can't stand what's-her-face either but an amendment is stupid and unnecessary.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

Funny how a divorcee talks up the sacred institution of marriage. Don't forget that you broke your promise to god when you finalized that divorce.

My divorce was completely acceptable by God, because she cheated on me. Nice try though, helmet-breath.

you dont want gay ppl marreid, but you want them to have the same rights?

it confuses me. Marriage is now a state function (govt function ) you could argue that its still religious and you would be right on many aspects, but - you are in a legal contract ( god doesnt take you to court so to speak ) Religious and unreligious ppl are married and different ethnicities and religons practice marriage.

So for you its fine to say you dont want gays married, but that is your religious belief - other religions or sects , and those that dont belive in god ( liberals JK ) may find it acceptable.

My point being is to base anything in a country that is a melting pot based on one religious point of view is close minded ( imo ) You dont have to marry a gay person as you are strait and it goes against your beliefs. But until our Govt. decides to give minority groups ( gays in this case ) the same rights as humans they deserve regaurdless of who they are fucking

Anyways I could care less who a gay person marries or who you marry imo as long as it makes you happy and that person inspires you to be a better person. But until I see the govt reaching out to give gays the same rights as a married couple and remain unmarried then I am opposed to the entire idea.

And Btw - seriously with all the problems in the US could we focus on something that matters, immigration ( illegal ) jobs for US citizens, health care, outragouse gas prices, violent crimes, .... this is fucking bottom of the barrel shit that maybe our govt could focus on off the top of my head
