There is a soup from China, I think, that is clear broth and has little gold flakes floating in it (like watered down Goldschlagger) that actually caused me to sweat when I ate it. The little asian guys who gave it to me laughed thinking I would cry that it was so hot, but bought me aabout 12 beers because I ate it.

I've mentioned it before, but there's a pub here in the bay area (The Prince of Wales, on 25th avenue in San Mateo) that sells a habanero hamburger.

You've all seen those salsas you can get at the supermarket deli section, that are in the refrigerated section in clear plastic tubs, that are chock full of chunks of tomatoes, onions, etc, yes?

Well, the salsa they put on that burger looks very like that, but the big hunks aren't tomatoes, they're habaneros. Covers the entire burger, and they layer it on pretty thick.

The pub at least used to make people sign a release form before they'd let you order it, and anyone who does order it gets a bumper sticker that says "I survived the Habenero Hamburger at the Prince of Wales".

I've never even been remotely insane enough to try the thing. I did manage to convince 2 people to do so, however.

1 was always talking up his spicy-food prowess, and he'd been married to a mexican lady, and loved the ultra-hot food her relatives would serve. Well, by the time he was halfway through the burger, he was sweating so bad the inside of his glasses fogged up. rofl. He never did finish the thing, and then he missed the next 2 days of work due to "ring of fire" issues.

The 2nd was my nextdoor neighbor, who WAS mexican. When he first started the burger, he loudly wondered if they'd put enough salsa on it. By 3/4 of the way through the burger, he was in actual pain. rofl. He actually did finish it, but said he was cursing me viciously at about 5am the next day. *laugh*

rofl. we had a mexican family as nieghbors a long time ago and i had this mustard called Zakuson that was like a russian style mustard i guess even though it' smade in toronto, ontario. they were saying it'd be weak because they're from mexico and can eat realy spicy things. i told thim to take a nice decent dip of it on this palmeni i made and they were like screaming and crying. it was hilarious. me and mappatazee tried it one time and cried too. it's insane and it doesn't even have horse raddish in it

There was a big sallad bar and at the end was this green mix of ground vegetables. Now I thought it was something like Babaganush or Humus, so i grabbed few spoons of it into my plate, not noticing my wife laughin. I sat at the table, and took a spoon full of that stuff. I thought my teeth were melting from the heat

I've tried all kinds of mexican hot peppers but nothing was worse than that shit.

Gotta love getting tricked by ethnic foods. I tend to get into that kind of trouble too because I am gung ho to try anything and I love different types of food (lebenese especially... mmmm tabouli)

arlos wrote:Well, Paul, if you ever get to San Mateo, CA, you'll h ave to try that Habanero burger.

The one friend I've had who could take stuff that hot (a female friend, actually) said it was a really tasty salsa, if you could take the heat.

It's just not just the habanero in that burger that get you. Those sneaky bastards there also put hot horseradish sauce in it.

You tried it finally, Phlegm? How was it, in your opinion? Live up to its reputation?

horseradish isn't hot

well
it's probably just that it grows wild here, and is cooked with a bunch of stuff

I remembe the first time I had wasabi, and had heard the horror stories about it

had some and was like "wtf, this is just horseradish"

there's a place around here that makes these stupid hotwings

I've ordered them 3 times now, and i've yet to be able to get 1 to my mouth

the spice or whatever they put on them makes my eyes water from about 2 feet away

Oh yeah, it was quite good and very hot. I was sweating after like the third bite. Then the hot horseradish kicked in and my nose started to run. It was great. It lived up to all the hype.
