Quit smoking today

Postby Jay » Sat Jun 10, 2006 11:35 am

I quit today. Had my last cig before I went to bed last night. Wish me luck. Any advice?

Don't tell anyone when you have quit smoking. It makes it harder when people expect you not to smoke. Also, stay busy. It's easier to keep your mind off of smoking. Buy some gum, that will also help. Oh, and apoogize now to all your friends and family, you will be biting heads off soon. Other than that, I wish you the best of luck.

A lot of it is psychological. Oral fixation, etc.. So yeah, gum will help, or a sucker.. Something you can hold in your hand too that might resemble a cig in some way.

If you get the urge to blaze up, run to the store and buy some "Commit" lozenges. That's how I was able to kick the habit. Good luck!

i am very lucky in that i do not experience any sort of withdrawal symptoms when i quit

i've quit a few times, usually for about six months at a time until i get bored and pick it up again

however after the weirdness and the hospital stay back in december i think i'm finally done with cigs :dunno:

Cigarettes are one habit I'm glad I never picked up. The ONLY time I ever have had any urge to smoke is when I was on Ecstasy. When I knew I was planning on doing it on a given night, I'd go buy a pack of Dunhills, and end up smoking half the pack while i was fucked up. Sober, yuck, can't stand cigarettes.

Very glad I never picked up the habit.

yeah it's been 7 months tomorrow, and i never get urges to smoke at all, unless:

  • i'm at a house party drinking beer (hard liquor does not have this effect)
  • i'm leisurely walking around downtown

I've done X 4 times, coke twice and weed about a dozen times....

X was fucking epic the first three times I did it.... I did it like once a year at just amazing parties... the 4th time I rolled the shit was cut with something fucking awful....Friends told me they thought it might have been heroine. It was an awful experience and ended my experimentation. I didn't like coke either...Fucked me up too much.

Weed on the other hand is great. I haven't smoked any in over a year but on the rare occasion at the right party the stuff is great.

Yep, I used to go to raves every weekend or couple weekends, and get completely fucked up. I was one of the older ravers there, and would laugh my ass off at the silly annoying teen candy-raver types. I have several friends who are DJs, and I was even part of some production crews, and helped throw more than 1. I haven't done E in, gah, at least a year and a half or so now, maybe 2 years, though. The after-effects are entirely too annoying now that I'm older.

I only tried coke a couple times, and really didn't care for it. One time was actively unpleasant, and made me feel sick as a dog, the other, it made me feel like my head was stuffed full of wool, like my teeth were numb and tingly, and yet I really wanted to do some more. I figured that was a bad sign, that I'd already have even minor cravings despite not even enjoying it much, and never did it again.

I've tried other stuff here and there, some I liked, some I didn't. Again, I haven't done anything but pot for a long while now. I actually use pot to some extent as pain medication too; that knee I destroyed years ago hurts all the time anyway, and it's worse after I've had to walk to and from campus, etc. Much faster relief to get home and smoke some than get home and pop pills. Not to mention, I worry more about the long term effects of taking large amounts of real painkillers than I do about pot, especially since I smoke it through a water-pipe, which gets rid of almost all of the tar.

I need to quit one of these days. I know that it's not something I can succesfully do right now though. I think I'll end up quitting the day I find out I have a kid on the way. Should be good enough motivation eh?
