Network card is flucked

I had to reinstall my OS recently and my network card is not being detected. I installed all the drivers for my mother board hoping it would have been integrated but that didn't work.

Is there any way I can tell what kind of card is in there without opening the case?

Without opening the case? not really, since it doesn't detect it already.

Is it an addon card, or is it onboard?

There are programs you can download that'll identify your hardware. Most benchmark tools will give you the same info. Just google something along the lines of hardware identification or computer benchmark. shareware.com will have same programs you're looking for.

What type of computer is it? Is it a brand name (Dell, Gateway, ...)? If you look at the back where the network cable is plugged in, is it up near where your mouse and KB plug in or is is near the bottom where any addon cards would be?

If its an onboard(near where you mouse/kb plug in) then if your drives are not working either your installing the wrong drivers or its dead. Most MB's come with multiple network drives since they tend to ship 1 MD cd with all their MD's and not all use the same drives. If its an addon card, are you installing from the disk you received with your network card/computer?

When you installed windows previously, was it always detected? If so, you probably need to replace it.

A 10/100 network card is very cheap and easy to install. In general, it not worth the time to dick around with a bad one, easier and faster to just replace it.

I figured it out.

Computer is still totally fuxored since it crashes everytime I play WoW or Oblivion.

I know its the hard drive seizing up, and I have a feeling it's related to my video card because it only happens when I play games, but I'm not sure what's up.

Is this an onboard NIC? I'll assume the answer is yes since you were installing motherboard drivers.

not to be stupid but is there any chance you turned off the onboard NIC in the BIOS? I've seen that happen a few times before.

Also have you flashed your MoBo recently?

If neither of the above options work I would just spend 10 bucks and get an internal gigabit NIC but that means opening the case.

If your hard drive is on the verge of going out that can cause a ton of odd problems.

Before I would start replacing anything I would get a can of compressed air and blow the thing out. Make sure its relatively dust free and that all your fans are working properly. It's insane how many problems are caused by overheating which is often caused by your computer being filled with dust and crap.

I actually benchmarked an old system of mine before and after a cleaning and the temps went way down and the system performed better afterwards.
